Thoughts on using a GM EcoTec3 V6?

Anybody have any experience swapping a GM EcoTec3 V6 into a rotary vehicle? I bought a 2017 Colorado with an aluminum block V6 and I'm impressed. It has 308 hp and that seems like a good and reliable hp number. It has an eight speed auto trans. I was thinking of swapping one of these in to one of my REPUs, it would need to be a manual trans.

My intention would be to have an extremely reliable, non-turbo, fun driving truck. I have a couple of RX-7s to fill my rotary needs and another REPU that already has its factory rotary engine.

Talk to Ryan at Goodwin Racing about his swapped Miata, or check with V8Roadster.com. Both have swaps with the GM LFX series engines. Direct port injection. Up to 330ish HP depending on the application. Another neat thing about them is that the exhaust manifold is essentially case into the head. There is a single port coming out of each head so no crazy custom headers to worry about fitting into a swap application. .....and the engines can be found used for about the price of a single 13B rotor housing. The gearing in the GM transmissions doesn't look so hot though.

I have no experience, but I've had similar thoughts to yours and have done a little digging. thought I'd post to save you some research time.

Ive often thought I'd like to do this in my fb ( edit; except with the locally available commodore v6) with a stick shift if i ever have to weigh up the options of another engine. Light weight, sits back in the engine bay, revvy, torquey, efficient, reliable, relatively cheap, parts on the shelf pretty much everywhere. By the time you do the exhaust, intake and give the ecu a little tickle which you would have to do anyway it will be a pretty potent unit.

This sounds really cool! I have no experience with the newer GM engines but it may be a little tricky finding a trans that fits? Do they sell this engine in anything with a manual? hopefully it shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern as an LS

They put this engine in the Cadillac and Camaro and a variation in the Colorado/Canyon trucks.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Hig...ure_engine#LGX

Along with the increased bore spacing, the new 3.6 L DI V6 has larger bores than before, growing from 94 mm (3.701 in) to 95 mm (3.740 in) with the same 85.8 mm (3.378 in) stroke as the 3.0L LGW, for a displacement of 3649 cc. Intake and exhaust valves are also increased in size along with other changes to the cylinder head.[21] Compression ratio is 11.5:1 and maximum engine speed is 7200 RPM.

Looks like at least in the Camaro it comes with a manual trans, now you just gotta find a wrecked 2016 or 2017 V6 camaro!
