SBC T-5 Question
You probably should call Hanlon or D&D to get an answer to this. The guy that runs Astroperformance.com is also quite knowledgeable.
My best guess is:
The input shaft from the Ford T5 will probably be the wrong length to work with the GM bellhousing. You might be able to find a GM input shaft that will work with a
Ford T5, which would make it the right length.
But looking at WC T5s, GM apeared to use a 24 tooth input shaft gear while Ford used a 23 tooth input shaft (AKA 4th gear).
I don't know if there is a cheaper alternative. Maybe something can be cobbled together with NWC gearboxes?

Chevy used T-5's also (just like everyone uses the T-56 now - I even had a T-5 stock in my 84 Jeep CJ7). My 88 Camaro came with a T-5 stock - when I got rid of the TBI and put an "old" small block in it, I didn't need to change a thing to use the same trans.
If you're looking for a used trans, check your local junkyards for a 5 speed transmission from a late 80's IROC or Z28. Be warned though, they are "World Class" T-5's and can't handle a lot more torque than the stock motors put out.

yes ford chevy and jeep all used wat was called a t-5(but the housings were diff, and the inside gears couldnt be interchanged to make one work), also if ur puttin it to a v8sbc chevy used different input shafts and gear ratios in the tranny. so in my opinion get the wc t-5 out of a 1989 or newer camaro or trans-am wit a v8(will have 26 spline input shaft, and the right gears and bellhousing)u might also want to look into gettin an old gm 4speed bellhousing as it rotates the tranny back the 15 degrees to make the shifter go straight up through the tranny tunnel hole but then u gotta play wit clutch setup so theres options for both bellhousings
Hey Eastwood, I just recently completed a sbc swap. I put a carburated 350 with a T-5 in a 79. i used Grannys conversion pieces. Car is running/driving but still need to do the exhaust. The engine and trans truly do bolt right in. It is all of the little things that will frustate you. With the exception of the motor/trans mounts and oil pan everything else needed to be modified. Honestly, I would steer clear of the T-5. Use a 700r4 instead. I can tell what was needed to get the t-5 in and working. In the long run, the 700r4 will cause you less frustration. I can tell you what it took to get through conversion if you want some advice.
