NY SA/FB LS1/T56 Swap w/ Rack and Pinion conversion.

Questions here mostly. I've been gone a LONG time.

I'm going to take all the good parts from my '80 which has rusted to hell since being parked and eventually use them on my '79 shell. I plan to put in an autopower 6pt bolt in cage, and then coat the whole body so I won't have rust issues anymore.

At that point, IDEALLY, I would love to do the Re-Speed stage 2 rack and pinion kit, and fab up some mounts for a LS1/T56.

I am concerned about rack clearance and the oil pan/crank pulley. I have been looking through as many pictures as I can find of SA/FB v8 swaps but have yet to find the angle that shows me what I'm looking for. I've tried contacting Re-Speed (another issue) with no avail but I'm still working on that.

I know Granny's has mounts and such that would make the drivetrain swap bolt in, but I'm not quite content without the steering upgrade. I've had too many brilliant steering cars in the mean time to go back.

Anybody have any experience with something like this?

You sir are lucky I found this thread. I have the answers to all your questions.

First, don't waist your time with Re-Speed. Their product is great but they fell off the face of the earth. I waisted lots of time and money because of them. It fits just right and works, but good luck finding a setup used or new. I will find the link to a build thread with the subframe and rack kit with LS engine.

Second, your better off looking into a FC subframe and rack swap. I have seen it done with an LS swap also. Works pretty well and then you can also use the Ronin engine mount kit

Link to said build with re-speed subframe
