Misc questions about the conversion - LS1FD

I'm just about to dive into the conversion, but had a few misc question I'm hoping you all can answer

1. I know the T-56 shifter sits farther forward, does the shifter sit too far forward when in 1,3,5th gear? Will I be hitting the stereo when trying to grab a gear?

2. Is there enough room, using Hinson's equipment, for engine covers like the ones on the GTO and Corvette?

3. With Hinson's equipment, can the car still be equiped with a stock RX7 undertray for the engine bay?

4. What is the strength of hinson PPF replacement part? I'm assume it's quite strong from all the drag racing he has done. Any comments?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure how it would sit with a stock shifter, but my shifter doesn't come too close to the radio at all. I cut about 2 or so inches out of the middle of my stock shifter and welded the top and bottom pieces back together in order to make it shorter and move it back a little. It works. That's a cheap way of doing it. Some people have used a Pro5.0 shifter along with the Steeda tri-axis shifter arm to put the shifter in a nice spot. The Pro5.0 has the nice feature of a removable arm. The Steeda arm is angled back quite a bit. Of course, you will have to get a Ford threaded shift ****.

You can use the fuel rail covers if you aren't using a strut tower brace. They won't fit together, from what I understand.

I'm not sure about the belly tray. I'll try and get mine on in the next coupe of weeks.

The Hinson torque arm is a quality piece. Once you see how it fits and what it is supposed to do, it's clear that it is easily capable of performing its duties.

1. The shifter sits BARELY forward, I think less than a 1/4 inch. This was my number one concern after seeing a Monster Miata conversion and the shifter ball about poking through the roof. It is a perfect ergonomic fit, even with the stock T56 shifter.

2. Beats me, I'm still hammering away at the strut tower brace.

3. Varying people, varying results, mine fits perfect, no problems at all.

4. That is a pretty beefy piece, it is as equal in size to the one I ran on my LS1 Camaro with alot more weight to manage.

Shifter pics. FYI, I'm using a Steeda tri-axis shifter arm. IIRC The shifter is in third gear in the first picture, neutral in the second and third

Here's one of coop's car. Notice both a strut tower brace and the fuel rail covers.

I had to cut mine, but I'm not using all of Brain's stuff. MY CAI was in the way bigtime, so I had to cut around it. About 30s with the sawzall did the trick.

Strong. Strong enough that you will break another part of your driveline (most likely the diff carrier) before you break the torque arm

Thanks in advance
