yup my thoughts exactly..
i can buy a stock ls1, do headers, roller rockers, and a intake and be around 350-360whp and if i want more i can still change the cam out and get near 400whp! really for a street car do you need more power? plus mileage will rock!

I'm actually thinking of pulling the motor and Procharger out of the C5, and dropping them into my FD as I want to go turbo on the C5.

Ls1
I do alot of work on Ls cars (install, tune, etc). best bang for buck is by far a F body (01,02) complete pull out for around $3500.00 with not too many miles on it. Add a mild cam/springs, headers, tune and you will see at least 360rwhp... that will push you car wellinto the 11's. Oh and you should still get around 21mpg on HWY.

A very, very iffy LS6 from a CTS with 6 speed on eBay..unknown mileage and unverifiable running condition. I'd post the link but i'm a newb here with minimal privileges. Search ls6 then sort by highest price, its near the top.

Your goals for the car sound like you want 11's, decent mpg, reliability. Without a doubt the LS1 is the cheapest way to buy, build, and maintain.
The 1-2mpg mileage hit isn't really worth discussing unless you plan to commute with the car (in which case you should go buy a civic or TDI).
