LS1 FD test ride please

I'm seriously contemplating going with an LS1 or 6 but I'd like to go for a ride in one before I commit. I'd be willing to pay for a tank of gas and some fast food if someone would be as kind as to let me hitch a test ride as a passenger. I live in northern Va 15 minutes outside of the District.

thanks, Rob

Rob, try the torquecentral forum, you will probably have more luck there... You might be able to find someone near you, but it is going to be hard, since there is only a handful of running LS1 FD that I know of, most are still in the process of doing the conversion.

I'm on my third rotary engine in 3 years. I like the LS1 and LS6 because of their light weight, reliabilty, and wide support. Idealy I would just throw in a low mile 405hp LS6 and call it a day (obviously it's not that simple)... but first thing first.

YOur Gay if you want a LS1 go get a Pontiac TA or go get the gto! Leave the FD alone!

Correction, 4th engine. That's the point RX-Racer, I want to be able to leave it alone ie not have to pull the engine once a year. I actually used to feel the same way as you about V8 RX7's but it gets to a point where you have to make a decision. You can choose to keep the car because you like the way it looks and feels while sacrificing some of its uniqueness and rotary spirit, or you can bite the bullet and accept the fact that you are going to have to be willing to replace your engine (taking to account that it is highly upgraded, ported etc.) fairly regularly. If I could rest assured that my 13b wouldn't blow then there's no doubt that I would keep the rotary.
There's more to a car than an engine; I would rather pull my RX behind me with a rope than drive an F-body.

Out of curiosity, how long have you owned your car? Is this still your first engine? If you were fed up with the poor reliability of your car what would you do, just sell it?

What branch of the military? Sgt USMC here.

Wanklin- I applaud you at looking at taking the plunge. I dig the rotary setup... just not the lack of reliability. The FD is truly an incredible chassis.

Check out the V8RX7 forum on TorqueCentral.com as suggested. Look up posts by V8Rich or V8 Rich with an LS1/FD. He road raced his 13B (single turbo/ported motor) FD and loved the way it handled. After blowing it up multiple times he said to hell with it and went LS6 (stock crate motor).

It makes around 350rwhp (passes CA smog!) and he says handles as good as with the rotary. He has 285/30/18 Hoosiers on the car and every mod that M2 Peformance carried back in the day (coilovers/big brakes/cage etc). He says most noticeably the pull out of slow corners is great.... also added that the wide power band didn't make him have to shift sometimes mid corner to keep the rev's up like with the original single turbo setup or make a similar compromise. 28mpg+ on the freeway was a nice added bonus as well.

Just because you changed engines... doesn't mean you are not a car enthusiast. RX-Racer as you can see is just another punk *** kid with a narrow minded outlook. I'll PM him an offer for a ride in my LS1/FD at SevenStock and see if he sees the light.....

See you on the boards,

Mark

I feel the same way as Wanklin and support you on your desicion. I hate when other rotary Fd owners express bad about the LS1 or 6 swap. (You killing the spirit of the Fd, Just get an F-body blah blah blah). Trust me one's you drive the RX7-V8 you will love it.
