Like LS1, but is an LS2 much harder?
Well i have owned an rx7 for about 4 years and i am getting to that point were i am tired of putting all this money into it for the smallest problems. I have been looking at some LS1's and how hard it is to do a conversion. Just the other day i found a good condition LS2 motor out of a 06 GTO with about 20,000 miles on it. I just wanted to know how much harder and expensive to do a swap on a 93. What are some of the major problems that come along with this kind of swap. I know the LS1s have been getting easier and easier to do, But what about an LS2?
Thanks

LT1's aren't half as good as an LS1, plus their igntion system (Optispark) is junk. An LS2 would be an identical swap compared to an LS1. I don't know of a single person who would actively try to put an LT1 into something.

I'm working on an LS2 project, though I don't have the motor test-fitted myself, but from reading, here's what I know:
1. The same subframe can be used, as mounting points are the same.
2. The oil pan must be changed. The GTO oil pan is a front sump, so you have to get a rear sump pan. Cheapest option is the LS1 F-body pan. This is also the only one that will work with Hinson's kit. Best option overall is a Corvette LS2 oil pan. It has improved baffling, and will fit just fine with Dynotested's kit.
3. The LS2 uses a drive-by-wire throttle. You either have to buy a gas pedal assembly from a GTO (can usually be included with the full pullout if you're buying through a junkyard, but you'll have to ask), and then buy the mounting kit to put the pedal into the 7 (from Hinson for about 100, give or take $20), or you have to convert the throttle body to a cable-driven unit. I'll let you do your own research on this choice.
4. The GTO tranny has a different shifter location than the F-body. Supposedly some people think the GTO location is perfect (F-body tranny requires minor cutting), but Hinson told me I'll absolutely need to buy his relocation kit ($60, give or take $20), which moves it to the same place as the F-body shifter).
5. From those I've talked to, I've heard the LS2 harness is actually a good bit EASIER to mod than the LS1 harness, although there are more people familiar with modding the LS1 harness.
These are the only differences I know of that you'll encounter. Good luck. Go LS2!

No doubt the ls series engines are superior to the lt1. However the lt1 is much cheaper to do. I paid $2500 for an lt1/t56 combo about a year and a half ago. Just got it running last week. It totally rips. I would let your budget be your guide. Check ebay for the differences in price and go from there.
