Finally got a v8 T5!should I get an aftermatket shifter?
Ok I finally got a v8 T5 from an 80s camaro,so I can finally start the swap,unless something else goes wrong[hopefully not]
Anyhow one of the articles about the T5 said it was a good Idea to get an upgraded shifter hurst etc because the factory shifters have long throw and arnt smooth,so getting an after market one will be smoother and help the tranny last longer,is it true and should I get one?
The thing that is holding me back is I looked up the cost of a t5 shifter for a camaro t5 and they are like 200 bucks from jegs or summit, the only one that was for the chevy t5 was a B&M something shifter.
so the question is is an upgraded shifter worth it?I plan to upgrade the T5 with Gforce gears[if I can find a place that sells them]in a year or so when I get some money, the shifter should still work after the gforce upgrade right?
Thanks

so are they worth the money
so are they worth the money?will it help hold the tranny together?
the article I read was saying that a good shifter upgrade would put less stress on the transmission and help it shift better and therefore last longer.
So are they worth the extra money?
Thanks.

Haven't got one yet, but I have heard good things, I would ask in a Mustang or Camaro forum, such as

This thread seems to prefer the MGW shifter

Get a shifter that can have the fore and aft stick position modified to clear the tunnel hole. the pro 5 is of this style. mustangs are straight up where as camaros are canted about 15 degrees from the bellhousing rotation
as to longevity adding an overdrive bearing support (world class only) on the countershaft ,supports 2nd and 5th and keeps the case from egging and controls countershaft thrust. Full rebuild is recomended
goto 5speeds.com and look in the t5 area for details. The is also a trans ratio speed calculator and t5 identification function
