rest of the car is dope though.. just stuck on the wheels. sportmaxx is like the generic brand cereal at a supermarket. I don't care if the wheels weigh 3-4 lbs more per corner. If I really want maximum performance I'll pick up some Weld drag wheels for the track. There is one other car I see occasionally in town with these wheels, in my city of ~275,000 people, so I'm pretty okay with the commonality. The other wheels I looked at were 5zigen FN01RCs, which are on every car I see. I like the look of them, and, judging by the multiple compliments I've gotten on them everywhere I go, others do as well. I think they suit the car. As far as being generic, I honestly don't care in the slightest. I put on my shoes I bought at Wal-mart and drive my BMW to work every day. ;) |
A few people asked about larger resolution images for backgrounds, etc.

Nice car man, I love the way it looks, just the way I like em. The wheels are slick, I have them in gunmetal and love them.
I usually don't like the V8 swaps but this is pretty sick. :icon_tup: |
I like the that front bumper, and I dislike most bodykits.
|
looks great.

Making some progress on my turbo setup...
Hotside: I know the wastegate piping angles are subobtimal, but the pipe is angled in, so the 2" pipe has a ~4" opening which should help maximize the flow to it with the poor angle of attack. Yes, it dumps to atmosphere (the wastegate). Yes, that will be loud under boost. No, I don't care even a little bit. ;) http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/bothsides_2.jpg http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/bothsides_1.jpg http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/bothsides_5.jpg http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/bothsides_6.jpg The frame notch: I've had a few people ask about this. It's tiny, 1" x 3" by 1/3" deep. I haven't filled it yet. It's right at the base of the manifold (near the center of the image). http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/bothsides_7.jpg Cold side: The big ass hole on the passenger side was there when I got the car. The small, proper hole I did. The big hole will be filled in and both will be finished nicely when I clean up the engine bay. Coldside pipes will be black wrinkle finish coated. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/bothsides_3.jpg http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/bothsides_4.jpg http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/bothsides_8.jpg |
i wish i had the money to have a v8 in my fc and i love your bodykit kinda looks like a flared s4 cant wait to see the updates
|
Really like the body kit on that, save for the rear end mold. Nice ride.

Rear end mold? The rear section is a bolt on to the stock bumper, nothing on it is molded at all (molded = cracks). If you mean the big flare and design on the rear, it's not my favorite either, but the design keeps the tires inside of the bumpers so that the rear 1/4s don't get torn up (my drag tires throw a LOT of rocks). :) |
So did you put the Left side headers on the right side to reverse thier dump direction? Trying to visualize how you brought the exhaust to the front.

The driver's side manifold is a passenger's side manifold from a 2001 Camaro, and the passenger's side manifold is a driver's side manifold from a 2002 Chevy Silverado 6.0L. The manifolds are just flipped backwards, as the ports are symmetrical on the LS1. :) |
Exhaust is complete, air intake complete. Turbo oil feed and drain complete, cooling system mockup is complete (minus heater hoses, but they match the radiator hoses. The oil drain was a SOB to snake through the Granny's kit. Definitely not enjoyable. ;)

Awesome job man, looks to be a true beast in the near future. What are you looking to make on the dyno? 1/4 mile time?
Keep it up. |
Conservatively speaking, I'd like to see a 10.8-10.9 range 1/4 mile and ~575-600 RWHP on the dyno, pump gas + 100% methanol injection.
|
Beast! Can't wait to see it done.
|
WOW!!!! I pity the person who revs up at you at the next stop light!! That is crazy!!

In tank fuel system:
http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/fuel/fuel_3.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/fuel/fuel_2.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/fuel/fuel_1.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/fuel/fuel_4.JPG It's dual walbro 255 lph (with check valves) into 3/8 fuel line into aeromotive y-block into -8 AN which then upsizes to my -10 main fuel lines after the bulkhead. I haven't finished the wiring for the second pump (activated at 4 psi of boost with a hobbs switch). |
Shit I need to pay attention, had no idea you were going to boost that ol' bitch.
Looks good man, that thing is going to snap necks - keep it up :bigthumb: |

Cold side pipes are back from powdercoating. They look dramatically better now.
JGS BOV is all pretty and installed now too, though I can't final it yet as my o-ring is hiding somewhere in my parts collection. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo.../icpipes_3.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo.../icpipes_2.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo.../icpipes_1.JPG |
Damn, this thing is gonna be raw.
|
Well, I'm getting rid of the fuel system pictured above.
Going with a sumped tank and an Aeromotive A1000. Less complicated, and more headroom available. :) |
|
Parts!
Jet-Hot 2000* coated hot side. It's not actually as blue as the flash makes it look, it's a lot darker and more subtle. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/final/final_2.JPG Got fuel? http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/final/final_9.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/final/final_3.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/final/final_4.JPG If you look closely here, you can see the EGT probe in the manifold. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/final/final_5.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/final/final_6.JPG Fuel feed (with gauge) through rails to regulator to return. The big bit on the regulator is the sender for my in cabin fuel pressure gauge. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/final/final_7.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/final/final_8.JPG Still have a lot to do, but it's getting closer... :) |
Very nice. I know this may be a dumb question, but shouldn't the Air filter be moved out of the path of the hot air through the Rad/Intercooler?
Your car is one of the nicest v8 FC's on the board. |
its threads like this that make me want to change my mind... (engine wise)

Your car is one of the nicest v8 FC's on the board. Optimally, the filter would be located outside of the engine bay; unfortunately packaging for that would be really, really ugly, and the amount of restriction induced by the bends/pipe sizing required would probably negate most of the benefit anyway. That said, between the FMIC and Alky injection, I don't think intake temps should be too much trouble. :) |
Hey man looks GREAT. How much goes JET HOT charge? I am thinking about doing this to my DP, turbine housing and mani.
|
For some reason I really really really really like this build. This is legitimately the first V8 conversion I haven't ignored. Congrats man (your old car had me captivated too)
|
i like this car Alot, but Whyyyy the Blueeeeeee lol jk, if blues cool with you its all good, i would prefer black couplers more sleeker look to it
|
I have about 800 dollars (including shipping in the Jet-Hot).
RRTEC, I see you also have an E36. I have a 328i Cabrio that's my daily. Nice cars, I like them a lot. :) I've put a lot of effort into trying to address all aspects of the car, without going overboard anywhere (except maybe power...), so I'm glad to hear that some of the rotary stalwarts appreciate it. :) |

:) Holy shit! I imagine shipping was about 150 or so? I will have to get a qoute from them. I am really trying to focus on reducing engine bay temps..actually temps in general associated with the engine. |
Shipping was about 100 dollars round trip; The work on the pipes was ~700 (200 for the manifolds, 200 for the turbine and 300 for the remaining pipes).
I'd think on a rotary, you'd only be at 200 (turbine) + 150 (manifold) + 150 (downpipe), so not quite as painful. :) |
love it...i think this build epitamises my goal for my FC
|
Fuel system mocked up:
Here you can see the bracket for the pump. It's pretty sturdy, plenty enough to hold the A1000 in place. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/sump/sump_3.JPG This picture is a little misleading because of the angle. There is no sharp bend in that hose at all, it's just the perspective. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/sump/sump_1.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/turbo/sump/sump_2.JPG |
|
Saaaweeet.
|
hehe showing off to the rotary crew ?
|
You sir, are a mad man. Hats off to you.
|
Geez man you know how to make a strong build props bro!
|
Awesome just awesome :D
|
There isn't any beads rolled on the intercooler piping? That s sucks but everything else is fine so far. Im not big on putting diferent motors from different manufacturers either but its well done and the car looks great. Good job! get some beads on those pipes so they stay on.
|
12-15 lbs of boost. I'm pretty sure my layout + aquanet will keep the pipes together fine, but if I run into any issues I'll bead them. :)
Thanks for the compliments. |
We need a video of it out running around...... :)
|
RRTECs got the right idea
+1!!! |
j00 ruined teh weight distribution!!1!
 j/k +1 on getting some videos. Badass car :icon_tup:. |
Should have some pretty soon, maybe this weekend. Tune is CLOSE. WOT is running great, though I get a rich backfire on shifts currently. 9 psi is fun though. :D
|
Bling, bling.
Engine bay with new red wrinkle finish, Jaz catchcan/overflow for coolant, -10 crossover between the valve covers, -12 feed to Moroso breather tank, as well as a wire tuck and the lines/nozzle for the methanol. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/enginebay/IMG_4017.JPG http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/enginebay/IMG_4019.JPG Crossover bungs welded into the stock valve covers. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/enginebay/IMG_4027.JPG Methanol nozzle. http://www.ls1fc.com/main/1988/enginebay/IMG_4023.JPG There are some videos on www.ls1fc.com (under videos, obviously). ;) |
