FD RX-7 with a V-8 Motor

Is there anyone in Ontario with a FD RX-7 with a V-8 motor installed? I am really curious in how this combination drives like.

rx-7 can be pretty reliable.... remember these cars are 14years +++ with a good engine, good turbos, reliability mods, new coil packs, great maintenance done, i wont be as reliable as a v8, but could do a good daily driver.

Ya, I was just making a joke. With the right reliability mods and taken care of properly even a modded FD can be reliable.

But with that said, when my motor lets go I will be replacing it with an LS series motor (boosted of course).

yes, I could get a corvette.... But You can't get the weight down to 2700Lbs. Also, I love the shape of the RX-7!

2700lbs and 400hp sounds like a good combo to me! I would imagine it would be alot cheaper in putting in a 400hp V8 vs getting 400HP from a 13b motor?

Yes, I have one, and for any of you haters.......give it a rest, i have been there done that and I needed a change which couldn't have made me HAPPIER!

There is nothing like having a 500hp car that weighs in at 2900lbs with me in it, roll cage and full interior.

Rx8Mike,

You will find alot of haters on here in regards to doing that swap.

People whine when you put a v8 in a 7,
Mustang guys whined when the rb26dett was put into the 68 fastback for Tokyo Drift.

As long as its not a hack job and the owner is proud of it, who cares

Paul,

Hope to check out your car sometimes, possibly arrange a ride

Have you ever driven a C5 or C6 corvette? There is no comparison between the 2 cars, the FD is far superior regardless of it's age, turn in, overall ride, and lets not forget the looks. I considered selling and buying a C6 but parting with my FD would be heart breaking especially because I would be setteling for less of a car.

If you ever get a chance to ride in an FD with an LSX motor you will be surprised at how well it works and how there are no negative points to be said, PERIOD!Your lack of knowledge is causing you to form a very ill informed opinion about the "swap", so please don't make comments without doing your research first.

I will be attending the August Mazda event at Toronto Motorsports Park for the guys who want to see it in person. I will be putting my car back on the road in about 2 weeks so maybe you will hear me coming!

I don't have anything against an FD V8 swap, but thats just BS. I drove a C6 Z06 and is hands down a better car, with better aero, far better interior, better handling and ride. So what if its 300 lbs heavier its a better car.

My boss/buddy bought a Z06 last summer. Its too much car for the average man. He accually broke the traction control one day. I think the C6 Z06 was a pure engineering exercise. It was more or less, lets see how incredible we can make this car.

Most of the completed ready to go swaps are around 20kUS on average for the LSX fd swap.

Most are really nice examples

I'll have an LS1 FD one day, maybe not this FD, but one.

LS1's are just way too awesome of a motor.

I haven't seen any LS1 FD's FS in canada, but there are several for sale in the states.

I've driven a C6 Z06, they're pretty ******* awesome. I could see myself in one one day.
Probably wouldn't even take much work to get it to be as fast as my FC, either

Until you realize how wide it is.

I am still under the opinion that V8 swapers are looser/quitters, use the rotary, treat it well and it will treat you well.

For the record I love the Z06.

I was under the impression that the LS2 and LS7 are the same size, both being small blocks. When I was at a vette show in the states, they had both motors side by size. Virtually Identical in dimensions. And the LS2 is no bigger than an LS1. But, of course, I could be wrong.

Good luck to you w/e you decide. If you do throw in a v8 lump, which engine were you considering? Also, don't forget to post vids/pics.

P.S. 20b would keep the handling, same power or more (less weight).... v8... turn-in... oxymoron I'd guess in that chassis.
