I know you are extremly busy with your personal life and trying to make this hood, but damn I can't wait till you are done with it because I so badly want to see the end result. Keep up the good work.

If this allows for the harrop itb's, I'm in. But I'll be running at least a 427 sleeved setup.
Onlt bad news is that you'll have to wait on me until closer to 08.
I'll be going over seas this next year and will be doing the project when I get back.

Oh, and what about smoothing it back down towards to rear to fit just like the stock hood. I don't like how its elevated all the way back. We don't need it to be high in the back anyways.

 

The whole point is for it to be a functional "cowl." I don't think it would look very good coming all the way down to flush the last 2 inches of the hood. I think you'll like how it looks once you see it painted and on the car.

 

The Miata has it somewhat similar to what I had in mind.

The only problem with the cowl all the way to the rear would be the same as what happens when people remove the weather stripping on the the stock hood. Air gets pushed in the back from it hitting the windshield. I know it doesn't look like it would, but the guys that do it have reported routinely higher temps rather than lower.

I think it looks good, and I may very well consider getting in on the group buy when they're at that point.

As far as the cowl induction goes, I think about 99% of those interested in this are running FI setups that won't have the air intake in the hood anyway. Cowl induction wouldn't help me, as my filter sits behind the front bumper cover.

It would, however, probably lower your temps slightly in traffic. The cowl hood on my Monte Carlo used to spew heat out the rear vents (which fogged the outside of the windshield if it was raining). For highway use, I can't see the temperature increasing noticeably unless you already have a cooling issue.

I would buy it based on the clearance for future changes to my induction setup, the looks of it, and the likelihood that it would weigh a pound or two less than the stocker.

if you can see the first you answered my question. the second is to show you how they finished the edge by the window (they rolled the lip) which is nice.

 

Ours does have a slight "lip" towards the end of the hood. Not that extreme...but thats something we can play with a bit when we have our prototype.

some updated photos. The mock hood is now in primer. There is also a thin guide coat sprayed onto the hood in these photos, which is used to make sure there are no ripples in the surface when sanding it down smooth. We are now acquiring the gel coat and fiberglass materials needed to make the mold.





It's coming along very nicely. Can't wait to see what it looks like on the car.

 

Looking good TIM! This hood might work for some of you who's doing 20B conversions and dont want to mess around with modifying subframe.
