Exhaust Help for Ford 302
Hey,
I need some help here.
I am putting my 302/T5 set up in a 2nd gen.
I have Ford racing shortie headers.
Question-
whats the cheapest way to finish the exhaust?
I am a junkyard crawler, so any ideads there would be great too.
Thanks.

I'm not aware of any pre-made pipes that will fit. If you're just using a stock 302, you could try to find an aftermarket FC catback setup and then have an exhaust shop make a y-pipe for you to mate up with it. Or just let an exhaust shop do a whole header back system using the cheapest mufflers you can find that aren't completely restrictive. If you're putting out more than stock power, you're going to need a custom setup with at least 2 1/4 (preferably 2 1/2 or even 3" if you're looking at 350-400hp or more) pipes and high flowing mufflers. Low price mufflers and small tubing will eliminate any advantage you gained by putting the 302 in there, with maybe the exception of reliability. It's worth the money to put a nice exhaust on the car, because low volume exhaust systems are a serious power robber. Consider an x-pipe and dual exhaust if you can find it in your budget - it's worth it.

you can use the stock or aftermarket h or x pipe as the pipes use the tranny mount as a mounting spot as well, distance from the header to trans is still the same so they fit, you may have to do a pie cut like i did just to tuck it up to the body so it doesnt hang low but its not hard. then just find the mufflers you want and have the remaining part fabed up.
heres some quick pics i had, my set up was stock headers to a aftermarket h pipe set up to some cans i had laying around...actualy sounded pretty sweet. you can see in the first pic the cut and weld i made to kick the ds pipe to the center of the car more, the pipes ended right infront of the diff. then just used some pipin off another 7 i had and completed the system.
