I guess if it has a soul, then when it dies you are going to BURY it, right? Come off it. It is a bunch of nuts and bolts and pieces of metal, plastic and rubber, assembled together to make a mode of transportation. The car does not know what engine it has in it. It doesn't "Think" : Oooh, I have a rotary engine I can drive fast in the twisties", or " Ooooh, I gotta v8, I can out torque anything on the road."
What it does have is an owner who likes the car and wants to keep it original or modify it. I don't care if you change the radio out for an aftermarket one or swap an engine. If you change it from the way it was built at the factory, it is not "Original" anymore.
If you purists like the rotary so much, why dont you just pull the motor out, stick it on a stand in your living room to stare at every night and day, and give me the car. I'm sure I could find some kind of engine to put into it and have fun driving the CAR, rotary or not!
(I am only talking to the ones who jump all over anyone for swapping another engine into an RX7, not the purists who just like thier cars, but don't flame anyone)
I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, just as I am to mine. Quit getting your panties in a wad just cuz someone did something you didn't like to THEIR car. If you don't want to modify your car then don't. If you do, then do. Don't criticize people for doing what they like with their own property. You don't have to agree with them, but you don't have to insult them either.
I am the proud owner of an FB and a Vert. The FB has been one little thing after another to keep it running. It is completely stock and well maintained except for a header someone put on it before I got it. The last thing that happened is the voltage regulator went bad, causing a spike to kill the ignitors. Now I am selling the car-not because I want to, but because we are moving and have no where to keep it. I had planned on doing a v8 swap into her ever since I got her. I hate to let her go, but I have to.
I still have the vert (gave it to my son who is 16) and the 13B has run fine with very few problems. If it ever dies, I will swap a v8 into it, or I will put another 13B. I don't know. I like the smoothness of the 13b, but I also like the power of a v8.
This LS1 FB in this thread is something somebody did because that is what they wanted to do. I think that is cool. If he wanted to keep it rotary, that would have been cool too.

Bill
PS If you guys look at the top of the board up there ^^^ You will see that it says RX-7 Owners Club. Not Rotary Owners Club or even Rotary RX-7 Owners Club. This board is for the owners of RX-7s. Last time I checked a v8 swapped RX7 the car did not morph into another type of car. It was still the same Car. Same wiring, spot welds, lights, seats carpet, suspension etc, unless someone changed these for aftermarket peices.
I recently saw a pic posted on this board of a seriously "riced"(that is the term used to descibe the car in the thread) 3rd gen Rx7. It still had it's original turbo rotary engine in it, yet almost all of the comments were "yuck, ewwwww", etc. My point is that alot of people didn't like it, because it wasn't what they liked in a car. But the owner of that car put alot of money and time into that car making it into what they wanted it to be.
Ehhh whatever. Just quit flaming people because they do something you don't approve of with their own car. You don't like it? Don't do it to your car.

I agree, while it's a good idea to discuss pros and cons of engine swaps and rotaries, it's also nice not having to sift through BS unintelligent posts where people resort to namecalling.

You could put a gas turbine engine in it too and blow everybody else off the road too! What the hell is the point?
Except maybe the EPA and CARB.
