Corvette LS1 question vs using camaro/firebird LS1
OK, i have the cash now for the engine and trans for my FD project, already have all the samberg mounting kit, blah blah.
So a question for yall, I read somewhere that if you use a Corvette LS1, you have to change the oil pan to the Camaro/Firebird LS1 oil pan...i tried google searching, and searching on here, but I am on a Carrier right now in the middle of the ocean, and the internet really sucks, so maybe you guys can just help me out on here without giving me links to search buttons etc, it took about 10 minutes alone just to load this page!
So to recap...Would i need to change the oil pan if i got the Corvette LS1? i know i would need the Camaro/Firebird T56 transmission since the corvette T56 doesnt mate right to the engine...is it much more worth it to just get a Camaro/Firebird dropout versus getting the corvette LS1, and Camaro/Firebird transmission seperately?
Thanks for any help in advance, it will be much appreciated!

Yes, get an Fbody motor pull out if at all possible, unless you find an LS6 pullout from a z06. 01-02 is your best option, because they come with an Ls6 intake manifold and slightly larger injectors.
A corvette ls1 will work just fine, you would just need to switch the oil pan and accessories. Plus, track down a transmission.

If you go the vette LS1/6 route you will need the f-body pan AND all accessories plus trans. The vettes move the alternator to the top pass side and it doesn't fit under the hood.
The LS6 is just a really nice place to start due to the 243 heads that can be ported by AI to make some really nice heads along with the intake of course. The 241's port well to but aren't ideal.

thanks for the info, it looks like the camaro/firebird dropout will be the best choice, and it seems everywhere i look, those are cheaper too, than the vette ls1, then trying to find a spare trans.

the best place to find any LS motors or t-56 transmissions would be
Parts Classifieds - LS1TECH
I would look for an ls2 or an ls3 if you could. Way more power potential from the ls2 which is a 6.0 liter or the ls3 which is the 6.2 liter.
and the t 6060 transmission is just the newer stronger and better geared transmission from tremec. and you can pic up a complete ls2 for around 3k If you just check the site.

I would say just find the engine you want from that site, and just change the pan out if its not the one you need. there are so many awesome engines for sale on there right now, and i'm sure you can fine a pan as well, or just order one from a vendor. they are a dime a dozen.

I actually have a 02 LS1 from a vette and it is not a LS6 lol. Talk about bad luck. Although some say the block is the same, the top half sure isn't.
If I was in your shoes and I got a good deal on that motor. I would get a Fbody oil pan or one from improved racing. You need a different accessory bracket suited for your engine bay.
