lol no, just cooincidence, guys were in the background getting a motor back in a 300zx... Car holds perfect vacuum and holds the target boost set by the profec B
Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll tackle the pump rewire, filter, and pull the plugs and see how they look.

Other than that, car sounds great! |
Alright, time for a quicky update:
Did a fuel pump rewire: - Ran a new 10 gauge ground from the pump harness to the chassis - Ran 10 gauge from the fuel pump to the 'Fuel Pump Relay' - Inserted a connector into the empty fuse holder next to the 'Circuit Open Relay' and installed a 20a fuse - Cut the main feed wire to the 'Circuit Open Relay' and put it to the newly installed 20a fuse Installed a new fuel filter Those two mods alone have cleaned up the power band substantially. The car has woke up in the upper power band and no longer feels like it is breaking up. Next on the list is plugs and wires then round 2 on the dyno. For the time being, some random pics from tonight (was bored): http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...7/DSC_0001.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...7/DSC_0006.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...7/DSC_0007.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...7/DSC_0008.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...7/DSC_0010.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...7/DSC_0011.jpg |

In regards to the pipes not fitting; it's interesting how that works. I bought some Samco silicone replacement intercooler plumbing/piping for my FD. They didn't fit "perfect" as I've heard from others. It took a lot of "tweaking" to get them aligned and fitting properly without causing bends or pinches in the plumbing.
Great build and such a beautiful FD. Good work. |
Ohh ya, forgot to update on that...
Turns out the JDM y-pipe is slightly longer then the USDM plastic piece... I had to take an angle grinder to the smaller Trust elbow that turns down to the SMIC to make the proper clearance between the pipes. This also allowed me to mount the SMIC at the right angle and gave me the clearance I needed for the longer aluminum charge pipe to intake elbow fitment. |

Finally got back to the tuners for some rolly road time. End result was 312hp/243 ftlbs @ 15.2 psi. I'll get more pics up soon of the dyno sheet / and soon, wheels ;)

looking good so far!

BlinD aren't you still on stock injectors what dudy cycle are you running at 15.2psi?
|
Stock injectors... Maybe Boostcrzy can chime in on the duty cycle
|
Ugh, fark my luck... Ran the car the other day, and it was running phenomenal. After the 3rd pull it fell on its face.
Let off and pulled over immediantly to a lumpy idle and found the vacuum line on the FPR blew off. It caused a lean condition, enough to probably take out a seal. Car is driveable, idles decent and sits around -16 inHg but you can tell its hurting. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._2100142_n.jpg The worst part of this all is: 1. If I replaced all the vac hoses like I should have, this may have been avoided 2. If I had gone ahead with meth injection there MAY have been enough fuel to prevent it from leaning and may have saved the motor (subject to debate) No sense in driving it around like this and potentially doing more damage, so I'm going to get it rebuilt. Coolant seals on this car were a concern from the getgo, so looks like a seal kit, new water pump and a apex seal kit are in order. While the motor is down I'm going to do some other mods that I couldn't do before: - Port wastegate - Urathane motor mounts - Solenoid delete - Clutch steel braided line - FULL silicone hose replacement (learned the hard way not to depend on 17 year old rubber) The 'wishlist': - Upgraded fuel rails - Upgraded FPR - 850cc primaries (my duty cycles were on the high side of the stockers anyways) Sooo ya, I'll keep everyone posted. :icon_tdow |
ah shit. sorry to hear man. :(

you should at least do a compression test first man don't jump straight to the rebuild:(
|
Well with the exception of a stuck seal, what could it be?
- Cranking the motor you can audibly hear 'fast' cranking which leans towards low compression on a face - Vacuum is lower than normal by a few inHg - Idle after correcting the FPR vacuum line is 'normal' just really lumpy |
Great work, did you get it sorted?
|
Unfortunately nothing yet.. I got a compression tester and was ready to go but just recently involved in an accident with the daily. Still dealing with that headache...
Hopefully soon I will have compression numbers and figure out where I'm going to send the motor out to get built. |
Motor gave up the ghost just warming it up to pull compression numbers. I think that answers that question...
I know I may get some flack here for it, but looks like I'm going for a powerplant change. http://www.norotors.com/index.php/topic,3123.0.html I will keep this thread updated, for those that are interested ;) |
still interested

Gordon BTW I was wandering what was taking so long for this thread to get booted lol. |

Gordon ....since you mentioned it....how many LS powered 93 BB R1's are there out there??....alot less than 135 I bet...so rarity?...its safe to say has compounded. rotary powered?...well...you get the logic...thats all that matters..... I for one am a proponent of enjoying return on investment....and can say that after 13 years of rotary ownership, that the LS2 transplant was the single best UPGRADE done to ANY of my cars...I am now driving the car more than ever and loving every second. Not that I was disappointed before....so you understand how profound the changes are in the right direction FOR ME. The cornering manners of the car are positive and predictable now....with an almost endless power curve providing smooth instant torque from 1500rpm to 7000rpm....not that a 3-rotor or 4-rotor couldnt do such a thing....but it is such an easy task doing this swap(3 days with all parts in hand) that one has to question if the LS series engines werent secretly developed by GM to make this car perfect. haha...(joke for those getting blue in the face now)....I am very happy to be enjoying my RX-7 and can honestly recommend this swap to anyone on the fence....the purists may hate you for it....but they will probably hate you when you blow by them at the track too... ;) .....Long live the RX-7 P.S. - now I find great humor in people asking me what cam I have in my car... :) -Jack |
