It's the 3rd gen. parts that don't work. The 1st and 2nd gen. issues were always delivery related.

razorback 10-15-04 01:25 AM

Differently? No. It's a couple pounds lighter and far stronger than stock.

The quality is very good. I cleaned up all the threads so that I could hand-tighten and loosen bolts quickly, but the dimensions are spot-on.

Whizbang 10-15-04 11:26 AM

not a bad buisness venture.

razorback 12-11-04 04:41 AM

oops wrong thread.

jimlab 04-16-05 02:11 AM

Someone brought this to my attention, and I thought it was pretty interesting...

Note the picture of the red 3rd gen. with an LS1.

http://www.madmanandcoracing.com/mad...icles/rx7.html
Look familiar? Funny, because they used Hinson's LS1 cradle as far as I know. :D

jimlab 12-18-05 10:16 AM

This should still be a sticky. It's not like it didn't happen just because no one has posted in the thread for awhile...

digitalsolo 12-18-05 12:04 PM

Actually, if you look at the style of the mounts in that image, it looks an awful lot like Grant's setup to me. (note the placement of the holes between the frame rail and the engine in the header pictures). It may be Hinson's setup, but that looks dead on to Granny's, stylistically speaking.

I'm not defending his past behavior whatsoever, and I haven't seen his 3rd Gen mounts (yet). When the set we ordered for testing comes in, I'll pop in here and note the fitment. We already know it does NOT clear a factory hood, but with Tim's new hood in progress, that may not be a big deal.

Now if you could get some of those 3rd Gen/LS1 cradles into someone who wants to mass produce a few... ;)

Different red 3rd gen. The pictures have changed in the 8 months since I posted the link.

We'll see how good the hood looks when it's finished... most people didn't buy a 3rd gen. RX-7 to end up with a Chevelle. :)

I'll be producing the LSx (1, 2, 6, 7) cradles in small batches. They'll have dual mounting provisions for those who plan to use LSx style intakes and those with aftermarket intakes who want to mount the engine farther back in the chassis. We'll be making sure that there's clearance for the LS7 dry sump oil pan as well.

The thread was unstickied because it's OLD information. If someone wants to dig through the search results, they will find it.

I'm sure a lot of things have changed in THREE YEARS since the original post. Just let it die already.

You're right. Who cares if every FD conversion kit that Grant sells is yet more reward for fucking me over several years ago. Let's reward vendors for shitty business practices and let members who don't use the search feature run the risk with people known to have acted dishonestly in the past. In fact, let's get rid of the good guy-bad guy forum. Most of that information is OLD too.

Your lack of concern is a disservice to everyone who frequents this section of the forum.

Umm, stealing and shady business practices isn't something that gets old.

Just because Grant is selling a new kit, and is better about delivery times doesn't mean that the information in this thread is suddenly irrelevant. It's not just Jim that has a low opinion of Grant. There are others on TC that he fucked over too. Hell, if he weren't so shady there probably isn't a Hinson Supercars.

His new kit may be the best thing since sliced bread, but that doesn't change his actions from the past. His service may have improved a thousand fold, but people should still be able to factor in this "old" information when making a purchase decision.

Hiding behind the statement that people can dig it up if they want to search is bogus. How many threads do we get asking how much the swaps cost? How many threads about weight distribution?

Again, who cares what's changed? There's nothing stopping people from creating their own threads about their positive experiences, or even from posting in here.

I don't understand why you unstickied it in the first place. If someone stole something from you (time/parts/trust) you wouldn't suddenly be not pissed off about it, just because it's been three years. Saying that the information is old and therefore irrelevant is callous and shows a complete lack of compassion. In fact the more cynical among us would wonder if you're getting something from Grant in return for this thread going away.

jimlab 01-09-06 08:34 PM

Bump.

FCdemon 01-10-06 02:47 AM

Not granny's related but I have a Q for you jimlab:

Is there any reason the cradles you're producing won't work with other hinson parts like torque arm, tranny brace, etc? Would the different engine mounting matter?

And that wraps up another hour or two of reading. At this point, I don't see why it would be a bad idea to register a domain in order to compile the amount of information Jim and Wingsfan have contributed.

BTW Jim, while I think most would appreciate the contributions you've provided to the site, is there anything or a few tricks you're keeping exclusive to your car in order to keep it unique? For most of us, its a logical and cheaper step to follow up on the group buys, but it would seem that the end result of a few cars would mimic yours.

BTW, glad to hear you plan on making room to accomadate the dry sump system for the LS7 on your upcoming cradles. I'll most likely be involved in that and the rear cradle GBs as they come up. :icon_tup:

I'd be very surprised if anyone's car ended up like mine. No one else has a 240 mph speedometer. :)

Damn! One more thing to order. ;)

jimlab 01-11-06 12:26 AM

You can't order one, there's only one in the world. :)

BTW, how do you like my new signature?

Details... ;)

Awesome. Shouldn't it say "stock" drifiting though? :p:

And it's missing you in your full on "icy hot stunta" pose. that, or you need someone throwing the shocker out of the passenger window.
