Another LS-1 FD is born!

It is about a few weeks from being done, just some wiring and driveshaft stuff

It went together pretty nice, the Hinsons stuff fit really good, I only had to grind a few holes bigger, and the headers fit very nice. although one tube is pretty close to the steering shaft.

the FAST manifold fit after I cut away a bit of the firewall and welded it back up,
but you have to love that 90mm throttle body!!! (which I don't think will clear the hood)

I can't wait to drive it!

check out the pictures!!!!!

well, good luck with it, as impure and bastardized as it may be. At least you'll never worry about your apex seals, water seals, or that damned fifth gear synchro. Maybe I'll see it sometime, being in Sactown and all. Josh

awesome project. good to see some pics too.

best of luck to ya, that should really rip with that much power... I am wondering if you should look into much wider tires at least out bck to put the power down.... like some 17x10's with 315 wide rubber would be "more" appropriate... and a little taller sidewall than 18" tires so you get a slightly better launch.

Yea the hood does not fit , I cut away part of the hood reinforcement and it still needs a 1/4 of an inch to clear, it will shut but the top of the throttle body touches,

on thing I was noticing on the LSX intake is that it angles the TB up about 6 or 7 degrees, If I made a wedge type spacer to bring it back down the hood will clear.
.............time to break out the plasma cutter!!

Yea but that one was not AWD it was a typo, and yea it did dyno at over 500hp at the front wheels, on stock brakes!! yikes!!!!!!

I am the FIRST person in the U.S. to have done that to a c50 Mirage

I will not drive this car at any drift events where the line is very close to any walls, i.e. Irwindale, Altamont, Vegas Motorspeedway, that's what my 240 is for,
I am going to take the RX-7 to Thunder hill on January 15th for a Drift/Grip practice if any one in the area want's to go for a ride. you have to bring your own diapers though.....HEHE.
remember in drifting its not "If" you are going to wreck it's WHEN!!!!

Where did you get the headers and how much did they cost? My car supposedly has "Stage II heads and Cam" but is still breathing through the stock LS1 manifolds. So there is some power hiding in there waiting to be brought out. Long Tube Headers are definitely on my near term wish list....

I never understood the whole concept of calling a car with a swapped engine by the body. For example a corvette engine in a rx7 body is not an rx7 it is a disguised corvette. SO shouldnt things like this be on another site under " other body swaps".

So the identity of the car is determined by the engine under the hood? Interesting concept. Not a new concept, certainly, but interesting just the same.

Well, the last time I checked, even converted RX-7s still had most of their parts in common with the manufacturer of the body of the car, not the manufacturer of the engine. In other words, you'd still have to go to a Mazda parts dealer to replace the majority of the parts on the car, so how do you figure it's a disguised Corvette?

BTW, that's a nice way of saying that you're a blithering idiot.

Sure it is. That's why a stock RX7 with it's blown engine is not really an RX7 anymore - it's disguised piece of ****. I mean, if the rotary is the entire car, what difference does the rest of it make, right?

Last I checked, I still had the same chassis I started with, so you can't really call it a body swap.

Plus, the guy at the GM parts counter is going to be really confused when I explain to him that my car is just a Corvette in disguise.

Why don't you go stir some **** in another forum. It never ceases to amaze me that people wander into the Other Engine Conversions section to put their arogant piety on display for everyone to see. It's simple really. If you're not a fan of engine conversions then just stay out of this section and leave it to those that are.

We haven't done anything to defile your car by swapping out our drivetrains, so why the **** should you care?

Jim you know deep down they all want it, that is why they look in threads like this anyway.

Good point. So since my FD doesn't even have an engine in it right now, it's not even really a car?

That would explain a lot, because I keep bumping into this thing in my garage that's about 14 feet long and about 6 feet wide, and I have no idea what it is...

The funniest ones are the ****-talkers who you just know felt like they were delivering some deeply profound commentary on the subject of conversions, yet obviously didn't have the slightest clue how stupid they were making themselves look in the process.

If you ask some of these Mensa candidates, it would be considered a crime scene.
