Almost done.....
Almost done.....
Well, I guess I'll post up on this board... not that anyone reads this forsaken section anyway...
I have a cam in it now... CompCams XE268H... it's actually a little much for the motor, but it should leave some room for growth. 224/230 duration, 486/490 lift, for those who know/care.
Along with the cam, I did a full double roller timing chain, new hydraulic flat tappet lifters, and new valve springs. I fully ported my TPI setup, and gasket matched it.
The motor, is, as of now mostly reassembled. I'm waiting to get at a valve spring micrometer to install the springs, then I need to set the valve lash, and the motor can be finished up. Everything has been stripped and repainted to satin black. The entire motor and all paintable accessories will be satin/flat black. The TPI intake and all the visible bolts will be polished aluminum and grade 8 stainless steel.
Oh, the block being used is a 4 bolt main 350, rebuilt around 10K ago, and heads from a 1979 Corvette (1.94/1.6 valves).
As it sits, I'm hoping for 300 HP or so at the crank as it sits, and probably 350-400 torque. That SHOULD be worst case, and once I get it tuned properly, 330-350 HP should be possible. I may go to an LT1 intake if I can't breath enough with the ported TPI.
Here are a few pics... cause yeah, people like pics! 8)
Painted Lower Intake Manifold

Ported/Polished/Siamesed Intake Ports

Valve Covers (with nice reflective MAZDA logos) I'm hoping to convince some people that the motor is stock in the car. hehehe

And a few more pictures.... but FIRST!!!! A story.....
So, I got off work early today because of a meeting, and I decided we'd try to get the RX7 over to the garage, so I can start pulling the motor/prepping the car... We finally tracked down a battery and a pull vehicle (Geo Tracker, LOL). Well, about 1/10th of the way to the garage, the battery started to die, which was killing my hazard lights.... I figured what the hell, I'll try and bump start it. Soooo, I tried a few times, and it didn't seem to do anything, then, all of the sudden, lights brightened up, shot some flames out of the exhaust, and it roared back to life. ;D Soooo, we pulled over, unhooked the tie straps, and I drove it over to the garage (it dropped a rotor about halfway there, so I had to keep it above 3000 RPM the entire time).
PICS!!!!
the rex in the garage.

Engine bay stripped of everything but the radiator and engine (it only took about 2 hours to pull all the harness... took me 10 to do that much on the Camaro, LOL)

The 350!!!!!!!!!!!! 8) ;D

More pics.... motor is in, TPI is on just for mockup purposes. Definitely won't clear the hood... I'm going to go with a bolt on reverse cowl I think... we rebuilt the 700r4 this weekend... in a couple weeks when it runs we'll find out how good a job we did.
On to the pics:

That's not gonna clear....

Nope, definitely doesn't clear.... ;D

Pics should work... they're on one of my servers.
The FTPs were cleared by wetsanding from 300 grit up to 1000 grit, then clearcoating. They look like glass.
Also, the weird looking "scrapes" in the bumper, are reflections of my engine stand.

Some more pics... as of current....
Engine in the car, wired and running...

Modified fuel filter location...

Another angle of fuel lines...

Engine bay shot...

Another angle...

One more...

The wiring is basically done, the engine starts and runs... the cooling system is now in place, and I have a spoiler and hood scoop (for clearance) ready to go on as well. Waiting on my friend to get me the shifter assembley from an auto '7 to finish that up, and she should be ready to roll. w00t!

Well, an update finally. I've been doing a lot of work on the car, but hadn't had a chance to get some pictures up.
I decided to go with a carb instead of my previous TPI setup, so I now have that on the car. We're having some issues getting it to fire (not getting spark through the dizzy, though it's all brand new components). Seems to be a wiring issue.. I'm new to this whole carb/distributor deal so there is a bit of a learning curve, and info has been scarce on the setup I have. Minor details though. The carb I rebuilt seems to be working properly, so that's a positive note.
I also got my interior reassembled, wiring done (mostly) battery mocked up for relocation and the wiring for that done/tested. I still need some new seats, a driveshaft, and to pick up my wheels/exhaust from my friend in Indy, then she should be on the road.
Ignition Coil

Radiator clearance

Engine bay...

Interior shot (still need new seats, anyone have any ideas?)

All new center console/stereo surround pieces

Relocated battery (not mounted down yet, just in for testing the wiring/circuit breaker).

Hood closed..

Wheels (not on... yet.) 17" TSW Evos

I now have the shift assembley installed and functional (I'll get some pics up for guys that want to run a similiar setup. It's similiar to powerlover's setup, and is a cinch to make. Thanks for the idea and the pics!), all the wiring is ready (minus one or two that need cleaned up)... there has been a little more progress in the engine bay since these pictures as well.
