Finally ran out of turbo...

Damn, I hate the fact that I need a new one..

Thanks to Glen at AZRotaryrotaryrockets for building a motor that steamrollered my turbo..

Thanks to Trevor for the tune!!! Thanks to Ryan for the IC setup! Next stop, 600!

Nice!

WNT2CREALPAIN 11-04-06 08:05 PM

Awesome man

sonick117x 11-04-06 08:40 PM

lol when will it end? your #s just keep growing.. nice work once again!

tri_tam 11-04-06 09:18 PM

nice~
what psi were you running?
all this on race gas right?

J-Rat 11-04-06 10:40 PM

This is Trevor...J-rat's tuner...

Boost:
4700 - 15.7 psi
4960 - 21.0 psi
Torque peak (5580-6140) - 25.7 psi
HP peak (7118) - 22.8 psi (2.69 PR)
7960 - 20.8 psi

The T61 was out of breath...we're at higher altitude than most (13.46 psi ambient). As we turned up the boost we picked up more and more torque but the top end boost and HP peak didn't budge much.

It was on C16 fuel with denatured alcohol on top.

Is Nice!

Jrat, you gonna uprade the turbo next? If so what are you looking to upgrade to?

glenrx7 11-05-06 01:05 AM

Hey there, I am the engine builder, I think the best bet is going to be to research compressor maps to find the best turbo for this engines porting........Yes, it is time for a new turbo

hurleysurf24 11-05-06 03:16 AM

dual ball bearing please :) lets see that fully spooled atat 4000 :D

Healing 11-05-06 04:37 AM

That's quite the bump up from your last update...christ.

And on stock ports still, too. Hmm...

arghx 11-05-06 09:19 AM

I am more and more convinced that pump gas is the devil. All the powerful yet reliable (relatively speaking) rotaries use race gas and/or alcohol injection.

2a+RoN 11-05-06 10:51 AM

I was there during the dyno. Car is mean as hell. Should be just plain rediculous once a larger turbo is on there and the engine can breathe..

Slammedblk7 11-05-06 10:56 AM

Good numbers, I need to get in gear with my stuff!

theflatlander 11-05-06 11:38 AM

Nice numbers, when will this setup be track tested?

arghx 11-05-06 12:00 PM

J-rat, is your motor dowel pinned?

Syncro 11-05-06 12:01 PM

Why more power you crazy SOB? :D

88rxn/a 11-05-06 12:38 PM

lets hear about this motor you have built!?

vipers 11-05-06 02:06 PM

Glen Weaver at AZrotaryrockets built it. For some background, Glen is one of Paul Yaw's builders whom opened his own shop. The motor is clearanced, cryo-treated, balanced, etc.. I think he would be the better person to talk about the motor.

Whizbang 11-05-06 09:15 PM

regarding the stock ports, and ive mentioned this before so i apologize (actually i dont apologize).

i know what the one FD rx7 team running in the NOPI uses stock FD motors.

just alot of methanol and about 40 psi. They only last about two runs. but the stock ports are consistant and when you have money, cheap.

Node 11-05-06 09:43 PM

holy shit jrat. you're nuts. time to get some drag valved shocks and soft springs and some 15"s :D

trevor, you're a genius

glen is building my motor too, balanced, clearanced, 9.4:1 13bt w/ porting.
glens the man!

Bah...I'm standing on the shoulders of giants. Almost everything I know about rotaries come off of listening to select members of this board...I just paid attention in class and mixed it with my previous piston experience. ;)
