Yoko A048 question
Yoko A048 question
Is anyone on the board running these? I see that all of the record setting cars are running these in Japan-land, and not Hoosiers or anything of the likes. I ask, as these are $300.00 a pop for a 265/35/18....... Their ES100 left a sour taste in my mouth for Yoko after driving a friends car with them.

Does anyone in know know how well they perform to say, the RA1 as both are DOT approved? Also, do these need to be shaved, or can they be driven on off the bat like the RA1? Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance!

A048R comes in two compounds I believe, a harder one and a softerone for autox. These are the hottest tires? It doesn't appear so according to the autox and time trial crowd. The hottest tire there is the kumho V710s and Hooisers...

Thanks for that link Nobleforums!
Cheers, the A032 comes in soft and hard compounds, but the A048 only come in one type, with a very discriminating selection for sizes.
MP5, of course, this would be mainly for road race, but with maybe 2 or 3 trips down the back roads to grandma's house at a quick pace to avoid the wolf

H = hard
S = soft
The compounds are all basically track specific.

The A048s are a relatively hard compound, they are just O'k based on the guys I know who run them. I have a buddy who is Yokohama ponsored, and must run A048s, so he has a bit of insight. For dual use Toyo RA1 is the only tire that won't "cycle out" on you. Do not imagine that it would be beyond Yokohama to put a custom spec rubber on an A048 carcass. Back in the 90s, BF Goodrich made special tires for their National championship winning AX cars. This is a common practice. For the ultimate today for AX, and DOT road race, 710 is king. Hoosiers for guys that know them, and are sponsored(due to familiarity), and when the '05 hoosier hits later this year expect a battle. They have already dropped the '04 moving forward as Kumho has got them by the B#LLs. Carl
