Bigger is not always better. You can run 245/45s on the stock rims with success. There are no other suitable sizes that will maintain the stock wheel+tire diameter.

The only wider size 16" tire I've seen is a 265/45 ... which I've only seen offered on race rubber. They will fit on a 16x8 rim, but only because of the stiff sidewalls in race tires. (They look real funky too ... concave shaped when mounted.) I know a couple of Camaro's that run these for auto-x and track days, but I wouldn't recommend running like that on a street car. With a non-lowered suspension, it would probably fit .... but barely, and it would rub like hell under most cornering conditions.

Plus, 245/45 is plenty of rubber for most FD's. Works just fine for my car. And my car is fairly modified.
