widest tires on stock rims

What are the widest tires I can put on stock rims assuming that I would lower the profile if needed to maintain speedometer readings?

Thanks
Billy

You could go with 245/45/16.

225/50/16 is common on the 16x7 rims. That's about as wide as you should go. 245/45/16 can be done, but that's a little tii wide for a 7" wide rim.
