Who is running HKS Hypermax II coilovers on FD3S?

Who is running HKS Hypermax II coilovers on FD3S?

I have a set of Hypermax II coilovers with no install directions.
I need to know how to adjust preload and height adjustment. It looks the ride height is easy enough to set but what about the preload?

When adjusting the stiffness clicking it left softens? Or stiffens the shock?

There is jot a lot of info out there on this old coilovers. Thanks in advance

Post up a picture of the coilover in question. The adjustment procedure is go to full hard and then count back the number of clicks back towards soft.

Clockwise is harden, counter clockwise is soften. Typically with single adjustable monotube shock absorbers the adjuster at the top has a 90% effect on rebound damping and a 10% effect on compression damping.

If they are 30 way adjustable I would start at about 5 clicks from full soft, so count backwards 25 clicks from full hard. Too little damping will cause bouncing and reduce comfort as well as traction. The adjustment tool is just a normal allens key, I can't remember the size and I sold my HKS based coilovers (FEED Pro F-09's).

Preloading the spring will reduce suspension neutral or droop travel. This is a good thing on the front end as it will make the car more responsive because when the inside wheel becomes unladen the car will stay flatter. Feels good on the steering wheel and going fast on smooth roads. The rear end won't like it very much. Preloading the spring will also increase the ride height. Looking from the bottom you would move the spring mounting perch upwards by turning the locking ring clockwise. If you don't have right tools you can use a hammer and a soft piece of aluminum to undo the locking ring, and then you should be able to apply some preload to the spring by hand.

Another thing to be aware of is that the rear suspension on the FD3S has 'camber' in the top pillow ball to spring and the spring does not compress parallel on both sides.

Very bad service with my phone. Cannot access my cloud to get better pictures but here are some from my email hen I bought them.

My concern is better handling than lower ride height.
Can preload be adjusted separately than ride height?

Ahh thanks for the help. So a less preload on the rear than the front in a good place to start?
