I was running them on my FC with GC Coilovers. I did not run them long enough to destory them but it was obvious they were not meant to be anything more than a fancy stock replacement. The install instructions with mine clearly stated that they were NOT to be used with anything other than stock spring rates.
I am not surprised that one of yours has failed.
They were terrible shocks for racing. Wheelhop, chattering, overheating, you name it and they did it!

Try and contact K2RD - I think they have the most extensive experience with running the AGX's on the track.
I know they had a violent off-track excursion that resulted in a collision with a submerged boulder under some loose dirt that manage to DENT their camber plate, but the AGX kept on going. If that doesn't convince you, I dunno what does...
I would be confident to run AGX's on the track...
The other option is Koni yellows.

The cost of rebuilding a shock almost equals the price of buying a new one... That is what i've been told, so i see the shock as a consumable just like tires.

I have them and while not being an expert road racer I like them very much. I run the K2RD coilover kit with 400lb front and 275lb rear springs with c/c plates and the KYB AGX's. Polyeurathane bushings all the way around and adj rear camber link. Car handles very well and 25 minute sessions posed no problems or change in handling. I did punish them for 1 hour at Infineon Raceway (Sears Point) with many elevation changes, S's, and parts that required big time braking and their characteristics didn't change.
They are a good bang for the buck. I've never had Koni's so I can't compare. I car rides very stiff on uneven road surfaces.... definately due to the stiff spring rates. I was told past 400lbs rate I would have to go to a Koni.
