Are wheel spacers bad to use?

Hey guys I have gotten mixed answers to this question. I figured I would ask the professionals over here. I would like to run my stock FD wheels on my S14. I tried to put them on but the wheels hit the coilovers. I think a 25mm spacer would do the trick and I see plenty of them for sale on ebay. My question is are wheels spacers crappy? Unsafe? Thanks for any responses.

PREW: the key is getting the right rigid new lugs and making sure u press them right into ur drum. never short yourself of lug length.

crappy, yes.

spacers are like a bandaid for bad sizing on wheels...

s14 tends towards low offset wide *** wheels. it can do 9+15 in front, no problem. even wider in the rear. spacers + extended lugs aren't cheap enough to justify using them, imo.

save up a bit more and go for some used aftermarket wheels.

A large offset spacer will "overload" the suspension and bearing. How drastically are these components effected with a 1/2" spacer? Hard to say.

I know someone that ran spacers at the rear of his FD for years without any problems.

Another interesting point worth pointing out... Porsche offers rear wheel spacers as a factory option for their 997 models. Go figure.

With that being said, I would be more concerned with the vibration caused froman ill-fitting spacer than overloading the wheel bearing with a SMALL spacer.
