Wheel sizes??

I've searched and can't find a thread I like on this so I'm just gonna ask.

I'm going to be buying some wheels for autoX/track days and such, and was wondering what size people use. I was looking at maybe 17x8.5 up front and 17x9-9.5 in the rear. What kinda offset will I need as well as tire size to keep from rubbing.

I also don't wanna have to roll my fenders or anything like that.

To keep the handling balanced, you can try a 17x9 all the way around. This way you can run a 255/40-17 on all 4 corners. I think some people like to run a 245/45-16 on stock rims. This would be the 17" equivalent. Just a tad bit wider and a tad bit taller. If you run staggered I believe the car will want to understeer unless you play around with air pressures and shock settings. There is a lot of info on this in the racing section.

Then under that click jimlab fitment sheet
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=416251/

it's an excel spreadsheet with fitments for rims from 16 to 20" in diameter with tire fitments also!!

oops

if you meant in general, I think most people have moved to 18" just because there are more tire choices available. However, if you have the proper mods (coilovers and trailing arms) you can run 18x10" all around. If your going to be that hardcore then you might want to consider a separate set of wheels with racing slicks that you can tow and put on at the track.

If your looking for a nice economical way of doing it, get symmetrical fitments with 17" all around. This way you can easily rotate the tires. Do a search for the "sleep or sleeper" fitment. Also, in general the 17" tend to give you a little more performance as they tend to be lighter than 18"

good luck!

I know the whole deal with the suspension and all that stuff and how the different tire sizes up front and rear make it handle different, and all the racing stuff. I'm just new to this car and wanted to know what what size will fit without rolling the fenders. I do plan on keeping the stock wheels for the street, I just wanna get the widest tire/wheel combo under it for the other stuff.

As of now I plan on using it as a track day/autoX car and also wanna keep it streetable. In a few year that may change but I dont' have the funds right not to make it a full blown race car. 17" wheels are plenty big in my opinion. I dont' see a reason to go with 18's except for looks and options, but weight is a no no. I had thought of staying with 16's but its to hard to find wheels/tires and if I wanna up grade my brakes thats not gonna work either.

Thanks for the info guys and I think I did actually find what I needed. And I actually posted this in the Racing section so that is why I didn't see the stuff at the top of the page.
