What would you do?

There is a local guy in my area who recently bought the HRE 547 rims with P-Zeros for his SC430...before the rims got there he totalled his car. He said he would sell the rims/tires for $3000...would you guys buy them...assuing they fit (he said 18x8.5 front 18x9.5 rear but did know the offset or the wheel size.) Would you buy them..assuming they fit

Yes!
assuming they are not bent, they are the right offset and you want to spend 3K of course.

Figure 3k is entry level for 18,s with tires.
Offer him two and a half and post the pics...would like to see some HRE,s on a FD.

Nope. Those are car-specific custom wheels. $3G is too much money. I'd buy new Volks for that kind of dough...

Ask the guy what the hub pattern, centerbore, and offset are.

The FD Rx7 wheel specs are:

67.1 mm centerbore
5 holes on 114.3 mm (4.5 inches) bolt pattern

Offset range can be between 40 and 50 mm for 8.5 wide up front, and 45 mm to 50 mm for 9.5 wide in back.

OE overall tire diameter for FD Rx7 is 25 inches. Tire sizes should meet that spec +/- 2%. Thus 235/45-17, 255/40-17, 265/40-17, 225/40-18, 245/35-18, 255/35-18, 265/35-18, 285/30-18, 295/30-18 are appropriate tire sizes for 17s or 18s.

My guess is that the Lexus SC430's centerbore will be different than the FD Rx7's. Since HRE wheels are built hubcentric-specific for each vehicle, chances are the hub center bore and the bolt pattern will NOT be a match between Lexus SC430 and Mazda FD Rx7.

The closest Toyota wheel spec for FD Rx7 is the Mk IV Supra, but the centerbore of the Supra is smaller than FD Rx7, and thus needs to be modified by enlarging the centerbore at a machine shop.

94B..you're missing SleepR1's point. The hub is what bares the weight of the wheel, not the studs. Therefore, even if the bolt pattern is the same the hub must match damn near exactly in order to have a proper fit.
