You could try PM'ing the person that posted the picture, kwiknez. Maybe it's his/her car or they can tell you where they got the picture from....

Those are sexy rims, better looking than I thought. They're so heavy they'd prolly dent the highway--

Is there a significant difference between running heavy good looking rims and light ugly rims? I like the looks of the aftermarket rims that came with my car, but have no idea how heavy they are.
Just wondering how much of a difference they make...

Heavy wheels will slow your car's acceleration down. They will also slow the response of your car's suspension system. I don't recommend buying wheels based solely on looks. Remember you're sitting in the car driving it, and NOT seeing the bling bling wheels. What YOU as the DRIVER feels is the lack of response in acceleration and handling, in addition to the rough ride 19 inch wheels and tires have on an FD! Browse through previous posts on this forum. There's a ton of info on this debate. Whatever you do, DON'T fall prey to the trend of larger wheel diameters...it's a passing fad. True performance enthusiasts will buy wheels and tires to increase PERFORMANCE...aesthetics take a backseat. BTW, there are at least two lightweight wheels brands that are NOT ugly...Volk SE37Ks and SSR Competitions in 8.5 and 9.5 x 17 with 42 to 45-mm offsets. These wheels weigh about the same as stock FD wheels (15 to 16 lbs each), but provide a wider rim width for a wider tire contact patch for increased grip and handling.

These are the rims (WRD) I was referring to in my last post. The tires on them are Dunlop Sport 8000 P225/50ZR16 which means they're the same as stock size rims, right.

I definately like the way they look on my CYM, but haven't been able to find any info on them.

If anyone knows weight/specs on them I'd appreciate it.

I'll start a new post if this is to off original subject...

Rob, im sorry, but i would have to agree.
Those are some of the fugliest wheels i've ever seen. No hard feeling, since its all just MHO and taste, but i would really look for a set of stock wheels if those things where on my car.

rob,

I absolutely love the CYM R1, and am so envious...but we'll need to work on your suspension and wheels

I wasn't going to comment on the wheels, but since a couple of Rx7 members have, I might as well put my 2 cents in

I'd say--unload the wheels you have on the car NOW, and talk to Rishie (ARD T2) about geting a set of black Volk SE37Ks in 8.5 and 9.5 x 17, 40-mm offsets from Japan--he's setting up a group buy NOW. Have him mount a set of Bridestone Potenza S-03s in 235/45-17 and 265/40-17 on the Volks.

Next get a set of H&R springs and Eibach, Racing Beat, or Suspension Techniques sway bars for your CYM R1. You won't need new aftermarket shocks, as the H&Rs and the stock Showa R1 shocks work very well together (I know from experience, as this is my setup) The sway bars minimize the chassis roll, as the stock sway bars are too thin IMO. Rishie (ARD T2) might be able to help you with the H&R springs and aftermarket sway bars as well--send him a personal message to find out.

Next go with a set of '99 Type RS Japan spec FD Rx7 brakes fr/rr for your CYM R1. These are larger brakes all the way around. Braking performance will be astounding, and you'll have a functioning hand brake. The larger rotors and calipers will fill the 17-inch wheels nicely. I'd have the calipers and rotor hats custom-painted (powder-coated) black to match the black Volk SE37Ks.

With the above setup, I guarantee, that not only will your CYM R1 look even better, but she'll handle, stick, and brake better than 95% of the new sports cars out on the market right NOW!

Best of luck!

Thanks SleepR1,
That sounds like some good advise...(expensive though!). I appreciate you not only leaving an opinion, but giving some sound advise also.
I'll start saving.

Anybody have a good pic of black Volks on a CYM R1. Not convinced if black would be the best choice.

How about photchopping TAZ's set onto your ride? Or just change the color of his FD to as close as possible to CYM.

Here's the link:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...&postid=136155

Everytime I see this I nut. I'm totally obsessed.

Thanks guys,

Rishie

rob,

Work stepwise...get the wheels/tires and springs first, to get the look you want. As money becomes available get the sway bars and brakes. The upgraded brakes are not really necessary; BUT if you ever decide to track your car, the big brakes will become a serious necessity!

You'll enjoy working Rishie. Everyone has nothing but good things to say about him. Send ARD T2 a PM so you have a solid idea of what it's going to take, financially, to go with black Volk SE37Ks and Bridgestone S-03s.

Best of luck with your new "project"

Damn, Rishie, everytime I see TAZ's red FD, the pic makes me want to unload my Comps and get a set of those wicked black SE37Ks for my red R1. The black SE37Ks will look absolutely badd *** with a CYM R1! The beautiful SE37K mesh design combined with the black finish is the antithesis of bling bling All business, and gorgeous! Maintenance will be a snap, as brake dust will be hidden on black wheels
