What tire size to Autox on stock FD rims

I'm currently using 18" ADR rims with Azenis to Autox but the wheel weights are just plain heavy and the Azenis get greasy.

I have a set of stock FD rims and would like to purchase some Kumho XS tires for them to Autox but the only sizes the XS's come in are 225's or the 265's (wish they had 245's).

Has anyone had any experience with using a 265 tire on the stock FD rim? I'm pretty sure they would work in the rear but don't know if they would rub in the front.

Suspension mods on the car are:

Tanabe f/r sway bars
Eibach Springs
Tokico 5 way shocks

Typically for autox the max tire you can get for those 16x8 is 245/45/16.

The 265/45/16 in the XS is a very cool looking size. Never seen that done before.

At 25.4" it can work on the FD but manufacturer recommends minimum 8.5" wide wheel.

So at 8" wide it will mount up but probably not have the sidewall integrity or footprint that you would ideally get out of this tire.

As a result I'd probably go for a different tire that is offered in a 245/45/16 or get an 8.5" wide wheel.

Thanks Rishie for your comment

Anyone know of good (non R compound) Autox tire in a 245/45/16 size?

Michelin's:

By the time you pay for Michelin's, you can get Victoracers or R888's for a little more:

Would these tires (other than the Victoracers or R888's) perform better than a 225 Kumho XS? The only time I will use these wheels is to drive to, Autox, and then drive back home.

To be honest, I have no idea. Kumho's will probably have a stronger sidewall than the T1R's, but you'll have more rubber on the ground with the T1R's. It's probably a wash. However, if all you are going to do is go to autox and back, I'd run the R888's unless it's against your running class rules.

The Kumho XS's are very new and in testing it has proven faster in autox than even Bridgestone's new RE-11. They are very fast.

I've been pretty amazed at the dry grip levels of the Kumho XS on highway on/off ramps

For autox, 245/45/16 are way much better than 225/50/16

If you will have an autox dedicate set, why not to spoil yourself with the V710s?

If you want/neet to drive them on the street, I would go with the Victoracers

you might as well go with an R-comp tire anyway. Unless i'm classed differently CASC racing than you are with SCCA, i'm in there with cars running R-comps whether i run street tires or not. I fall under the category of SP2, so really there's no advantage to going with a non-rcomp. You won't be competitive.

if you're really set on non-r-comp tires, one of the quickest tires for the money is the dunlop direzza z1 star-spec (wow that's a mouthful). Recently, a new civic Si running those tires, with minimal mods set FTD over a lot of 'quicker' cars.

Very true based on a number of feedback I heard of. However like with the XS - they don't make them in 245/45/16, only 225/50/16.

We actually have our own class in SCCA for a bunch of us that drag, hillclimb and autox our cars. Snake River SCCA did this because many of us are not competitive in our individual classes and probably would not run Autox (I'd get my a** kicked in SSM). We also agreed that the treadwear in that class must be 50 or above (rules out r comps)

A friend is lending me a set of victoracers (245/45/16) for the next Autox so I'll make my decision then.
