what strut / shock for my FD?

I am i need of new shocks in the rear and I thought I would just replace te front struts while I was at it. I am on a bit of a budget and don't really want to spend much more than $500, maybe $600 so I am going to keep my stock springs (R1). I was looking at the Koni yellows, the rx7store has them for about $130 each if I remember correctly, $520 for all 4. Does anybody else run these with stock springs? I thought they may not be bad because I can drop the ride height a little bit. Then I thought I would see what Checker Auto had and they sell KYB's for $110 front and $90 rear, $400 all the way around. Are these any good at all or would the price be the only thing they have going for them?

You can just get a set of the stock Showa R1/R2 shocks from Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development for a little less than the Konis. I also have a set of rear R1 shocks, but they're going with the car once I sell it...

I run with the Koni Yellows all-around on the stock springs. I absolutely love them. They are a little stiffer than stock (on the softest setting), but it's worth the performance enhancement. I got mine at www.shox.com for $430 for the set. Last time I checked, their website changed and didn't list anything for the FD ... maybe their page is messed up ... but I would still call them and see what their pricing is.

And, I've been told that you have to use the highest perch mount or you will get rubbing. People seem to think that the KYB's are the same thing as the GAB Super R's b/c they're made by the same company; but they're not. I've heard good and bad things about the KYB's ... so essentially, I dunno.

Thanks for the help. I got a quote from shox.com for the Konis and they want $565 for the set! That is only about $10 cheaper than the rx7store.net, I was wrong in my first post Jason wants $145 a piece. $301 for the KYB's on shox.com. redrotorR1, if you had the choice to do over again would you pay almost double for the Konis or tempt fate and try out the KYB's?

I'd go with the AGX's if you're going with lowering springs. Simly because they should be simultaneous compression and rebound adjustable. Whereas the Konis are rebound only.
