What offset for 17 by 8, 17 by 9

What offset for 17 by 8, 17 by 9

Im looking at buying some wheels and was wondering what is a good offset. The wheels im looking to get are the 5zigen fFN01R-C 17s. In the back i want to do 17 by 9 and 17 by 8 in the fronts. What offset should i use in the front and what in the back.

This should be in the wheels forum.

For that wheel, just run the 17x9 +43 offset all around with 255/40 17 tires. This will work with stock suspension. Depending on the lowering springs you use and your driving environment (and your exact car), you may want to roll the front fenders.

These are the same wheels I'm looking at!

I was gonna go 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear

I THOUGHT it was 45 rear, but I could definately be wrong.

Also thought it was either 35 or 38 front, but I can't for the life of me remember.

AFAIK, they don't make that wheel in a 18x9.5 size.

I know that I have a 17x8 and 17x9 with both +35 offset. You maybe able to run higger offset. I like lower offset because it will be sitting straight with my fender.

Then run 18x8.5 +43 offset with 235/40 tire, and 18x9.5 +45 offset with 265/35 tire.

I agree with Rynberg completely. Those are the FD offsets in this wheel.

17x8 +35 and 17x9 +35 for staggered FD fitment.
- 225/45 and 255/40 or
- 235/40/17, depending on load rating and ABS maybe, with 255/40
- 235/45 and 265/40, sometimes depends on tire maker. Some don't make the 255 tire. I have run into this before as well.

17x9 +43 symmetrical fitment 245/40 or 255/40.

18x9.5 +45 I have actually done on an FD before with 255/35/18 and did the slight fender mod, it actually worked pretty good. We had coilovers of course, wonder which kind. lol.

18x8.5 and 9.5, rynberg is always on the money with my perspective. Same tire size he suggest.

I actually have 5zigen inventory list in my hands. What colors are you looking for? It's a good time to buy, many companies are doing end of year closeouts starting now. Christmas is around the corner.

Oh, if it was me I would do the symmetrical setup. This is how FD was designed. This will work best, imo. If it is a street car and you like the staggered, go for it.

I drove a track FD with the 18x10 285/30 setup and the steering response was ridiculous. I don't know if this is good for a street car.

Another very good option, a wheel we have frequently used in major motorsports campaigns, is Enkei's Japanese line which we are finally having here. Wheels like RPF1, NT03+M, etc....

These wheels are very very well made. They make a staggered 17x8.5 and 9.5 setup which for FD I would prefer over the 5Zigen staggered 17 setup. With this setup you can do 245/40 front and 255/40 rear or do 17x8.5 front and rear with 255/40 as well. The RPF1 is ridiculously light and similar to your "semi solid forging" type of technology. Enkei uses MAT, most advanced technology. lol. I would actually like to see this process because the pictures just don't explain it well enough to me. Maybe one of you can help. I do know they are very proven, bang for buck near forge technology.

Wow, that came out pretty nice. They make a great special order size 17x9 +45. I think we should group buy this. I know they require 40 units of a single part number to bring special order fitment. But if we all do symmetrical setup that's only 10 sets. It will be first warrantiable RPF1 in US. LOL!!!

This wheel must be 15.5 lbs, the +35 is a tad heavier. That's great. The FNO1RCi think is closer to 18lbs. I cut and pasted this from 5zigen site. Must be about 19lbs then. The Enkei is much lighter and stronger. I am sure that the 5zigen is lesser retailing at $240ea in 17x9 and the Enkei i think is closer to $300.00ea. I'm exhausted of information. These are two companies I know well cause we use both their wheels avidly in both japan and here in US.

Ok this thread just confused the crap out of me even more!

18x8.5 on a 235/40/18 (61.3 instead of 60 mph) in the front --> offset =?
18x9.5 on a 275/35/18 (61.7 instead of 60 mph) in the rear --> offset = ?

I don't know what the "fender roll" mod is (I'm a total newbie) but I'd prefer to not have to modify anything.

I'm going staggered because its a street car with a single GT3540R turbo, street port, 3mm seals, full rebuild, and PowerFC - power is simply overwhelming the rear wheels at all times. I'm not worried about understeer, that can be corrected with throttle, and frankly, I'd rather have understeer than unpredictable, uncontrollable oversteer like I have with my 17x7s right now (they're like bicycle wheels).

Oh yeah, THANKS in advance to anyone who helps.

Maybe too much info is bad info. lol.

Your setup sounds fine for your purposes. Just get the offsets rynberg stated and you're cool. Do you have a good contact for these wheels or are you just buying online?

I'm buying them online at http://www.importparts.com. They quoted me like, $950 for the entire setup. Not a bad deal. I searched all night for the best price.

So you guys are saying 43 front, 45 rear

I was told 38 front, 45 rear by a local shop.

I called WheelMax.Com and they told me 35 was what I needed for both.


I'm even more confused.
Is there a difference or a reason why one person is right?

we're talking about an 18x8.5 rim in front (they told me anywhere from 35-43) and an 18x9.5 rear (been told from 35-45).

Just trying to figure out the right numbers before I drop $1000+ on some wheels.

FYI, I know I can get a better deal and i'm sure better service from one of our dealers rather than these massive online wheel shops. I've never had good experiences. Regardless the choice is yours. I don't feel price is everything. If you have warranty problems they will most likely take longer than needed because there is so much tape involved.

I would be leary of getting tires on wheels mounted and balanced from large online places like max, I have heard of many issues like improper balancing, etc.....

Speaking from experience... you CAN go up to 32mm offset with a 8" wheel and judicious tire selection (225/45 or 245/40) and 38mm for the 9" for the back with 255/40 no problems.

Rocketship is very right. In 8" wide you can go to the low 30's front. Of course once it's an 8.5 the offset jumps right back to near 40.

who are our dealers? and do they know the offsets and whatnots, cuz most of the online places didn't know anything.
