Re: Whoa put on the brakes, gentlemen

I like those wheels.

Smack talk can continue in the lounge on this thread I started.

It might snow this weekend!

Seriously, I know Kyle Bacon, personally. Super duper nice guy. Very enthusiastic. As a person who's ridden shotgun in Kyle's silver beast AND LIVED TO TELL ABOUT IT. I'd say the race will be a close one.

Nonetheless, as interesting as this has become, we need to stay on topic with the wheel questions

OFF TOPIC--Kyle--I will be at Rx7 Store this Sunday for my motor's first oil change and a little PFC tweaking from Tony The Tuner, aka Badog Of course this is barring any unforseen bad weather in Hilliard OH http://www.weather.com/weather/local...hatprefs=&y=11

My bets on Nocab, but if he does loose I will be there to put the V8 FD in its place.

Chris (cdk 4219) has been into my shop a few times and is a nice guy. Sweet looking car.

Which also exist at different points in the engines RPM range. Don't assume all torque exist in the low end.

The -7- CAN'T lose!!! as ZeroBanger stated, and as quoted when the 7 was stomping another S/C V8...lol

Plus the whole issue of a word called torque. 485rwhp will mean over 550rwtq I'm guessing.....

My money is on CDK4219..... hopefully nocab72's rotary is still running by then. he he he

Badog- you have no common sense and no math skills. torque talks and nocab is going to get spanked.

how is that for smack talking?

-GNX7
Funny....
It depends on where the torque is at..higher is better. It depends on the full power band... Torque is the ability
to do the work, Hp is how fast.

No one has asked what Kyle (NoCab) puts down?

This is funny... and that someone assumes that 485 rwhp can't come from a rotary. If Kyle had say (and I'm not saying he has any specific #) 550 rwhp over a "decent" rev range, it's gonna spank 485 hp over a "decent" rev range from a V8. Power is power and torque is torque, but since we know Kyle's car isn't some drag-only 7k spooling car, more power is more power. It could be a "blown big block" but if it puts down 300 hp who the hell cares how bad *** it sounds saying "I have a blown big block RX7."

I'd love to see this guy get spanked, just because of the "I'll race you for $3000" attitude. What a joke. This board isn't supposed to be like this, sounds like CR talk

My prediction is that no money will change hands. Nocab will lose the drag race, but win the top end run. Either way I want some GOOD quality video.

Oh, if you want to race me too, meet me at Putnam Park Road Course on Saturday March 22. Afternoon session would be best. The temp should be warmer after lunch. Best to get a spanking after a full belly

http://www.putnampark.com/

Click on "schedule", and you'll find the MDC lapping day and drivers ed as the first event of the season.

BTW, you'll find nocab72 there, along with Jaymz, another single-turbo beastie...

If you want sign up for an all-day spanking here's the website to send in your fees, application and tech form. The cost is $330 for students, and $275 for open track drivers.

SEE YOU THERE!

Nice saline job too. Perfectly symmetrical. You'll never see them that perfect without some sort of surgical enhancement. Definitely agree about the need for some trimming

Sorry about the LACK of a trim. I wasn't the photographer or else I would've definitely thrown my Bic shaver at her before we got to work.

big torque means nothing, keeping that power down on the ground is the tricky part.

Just got back from playing with my new Rx7 "beast", and traction is definitely underplayed. I was breaking traction 2nd 3rd, 4th gear with only 12/13 psi (ambient temps of 30ish F) ?!

Aren't you supposed to be baby-ing that motor for the first 500 miles?

I've got 1100 miles on the new KDR street-ported motor already. FWIW Dave Barninger (KD Rotary dude), told me NOT to baby the motor with no boost...this is bad for apex seals...they don't seat properly when babied. Dave's break-in procedure is up to 5 psi and 5500 rpm through the first 500 miles. After 500 miles I could get into the higher boost (so I used the low setting of 10/11 psi). I had my oil changed last weekend at 900 miles, and I finally got into the "high" boost setting (12/13 psi)--F-U-N! Looking for V8 muscle to race. No luck so far

Holy smokes, you really racked up the miles fast. Did you just go for a long drive somewhere? I do remember you saying that before, about not babying it with NO boost, but instead running 5psi to seat the apex seals. Sounds like very good, logical advice to me.

With my urge for HP, 5 psi is babying it I got word that my fabricator is just about done with all the welding work so I should be on the road this week with my newly installed single turbo kit. I plan on running 5psi for 500 miles, 10 for the next 500, and then finally 15 psi. What is your opinion on running 15psi? I have a street ported motor, Mazdatrix templates. Are you staying at 13psi for any particular reason?

A couple of 300-mile round trips each weekend plus daily driving...it adds up fast

Please keep in mind this was the advice given to me by MY ENGINE BUILDER, Dave Barninger. If you have a Pinepple or Rotorsports, then you should follow Rob Golden's (Pineapple) or Bryan Smith's (Rotorsports) advice on new motor break-in
With my urge for HP, 5 psi is babying it
Definitely the case. I probably hit 8 psi more than once. Nothing serious, but I think the idea is to not boost the new motor for long periods.

Which engine builder did you go with? I would follow his/her advice for break-in with a single turbo?
What is your opinion on running 15psi?
15 psi makes sense with a single turbo. They're much more efficient at making over 1 bar of boost, than twins are. A mild street port should complement 15 psi nicely.
Are you staying at 13psi for any particular reason?
Yes. I track the car (road racing). For long periods of boost, the twins will generate more heat at boost levels above the twins' intended design tolerances (10/11 psi for the J-spec twins); IOW, the twins will be LESS EFFICIENT at higher boost levels during long track sessions.

I use the 12/13 psi setting for joyrides, street races, and autocrossing, so the boost at that level is intermittently used.

Generally I'm more conservative than most FD enthusiasts; I want my new KDR street-ported motor to last awhile (at least another 100,000 miles ).

As you know, the more boost you run, the more heat your motor cranks out (along with more hp), and the less life you have in the motor.

Nothin's free, dude

I went with John over at Mazdatrix. Over the years, I have never paid anyone to work on my cars. I normally buy the parts from a local Mazda dealer or Mazdatrix, borrow their street port templates, and build the motors myself. It makes me feel a lot better knowing with my own eyes what is in there.

But this time, I was working 12 hour days and Saturdays too so I didn't have the time. Kinda sad cuz the labor is going to cost me big time!!!! But on the bright side, John is supposedly building motors for quite a few race teams so I'm sure I'm getting top-notch work from him. Oh yeah, he also built Max Cooper's and he road races his car all the time- no problems yet.

Anyhow, thanks for giving the detailed reply. Good luck with your new engine!!!

Those rims are ugly. Like they got hit by an ugly Redwood Tree.
