What do wheel adapters do to offset?

I came across some nice wheels, but they are going to need adapters to fit the FD bolt pattern. The rears are 18x10.5 with a 38 offset. From what I have read on here thats tight if not possible already. I think the adapters are like 20mm? so does that add or subtract from the offset?

Be easy on me, I am just starting to look into aftermarket wheels, been running the stockers for too long

you may be able to make them work with some rolled fenders and slightly streched tires

No need for spacers

That would subtract from the offset (so 38 - 20 = +18mm). It would probably be better to see if the wheels could be modified for the bolt pattern rather than using an adapter.

I concur.

Spacers will lower offset, in turn putting more load on your wheel bearings.

What's the boltpattern for the wheels? What are the wheels?
