No offense, but if you really intend to track a 430hp FD; you shouldn't have a problem spending the cash for some Volks CE28Ns 17x9F and 17X10R.

(Of course track suspension questions to follow soon-- unless someone can point me to the right thread now and save me the embarrasment)

Thanks.
I really think you should track your car as is first before you go spending all of this or anymore money.

I intend on mounting track tires to the new wheels, therefore need to to have them planned out and mounted before going to the track.

I typically run the street tires for a day until I get used to the car (any car), and my brain back on the track. Once I'm comfortable, I put on the track tires for the 2nd and 3rd days.

Summarizing:

SSR
Kosei
Rota
5Zigen
Enkei
Volk
CCW

Fikse

Good list. Thanks Again!!

OK guys, I am looking for 17x9 and 17x10 wheels. I think the correct offset for such wheels would be 44mm. with 245-255 in front and 275 tires in back

What wheels, other then than having them custom made, will be close to these widths and offsets?

I have looked at Rota Slipstream, Enkei RPf1, Kosei K1-- none have the width.

Thanks

255's fit fine on a 8.5" rim. Same with a 275 on a 9.5. I'll have my 17x8.5F 17x9.5R RPF1s with 255 & 275 RA1's mounted this week.

Tire Size Rim Width Weight

255/40ZR17 8.5-9.0-10.0 26

You will have to keep us updated on how they fit. My concern is the offset of the RPF1's you have to fit 275's.

For the 8.5, offset 40, the 255 should be alright. For the 9.5 offset 38 might not be enough for 275, might have some fender rub.

Where did you get the wheels from, and cost?

I work at a small independent repair shop. I called our wheel and tire supplier and got them at cost.

All anybody on here with wheel decisions needs to do is contact Rishie - see the Auto RnD subforum. That guy lives wheels, and knows every fitment and option possible for RX-7's. He'll beat anybody's price too.

I got my RPF1's from Rishie. Good guy to work with. I got mine for 1000 shipped, which is pretty good. Right now, I'm running 245/265 on 17x8.5/17x9.5. I plan on going to the 255/275 RA1's soon as well. My car's a track rat mainly, so I'd have no problem working on the fenders a little.

Am I missing something? On their website they seem to only make 15" and 16" diameter racing wheels. I don't see any >16" listings.

Have you used them?

I would say light and cheap. Enkei RPF1 all the way.

That is likely the way to go. Best quality cast/semi-forge barrel I've seen.

Actually the NTO3-m is a stronger rim than the RPF1 with a similar weight. I have them on my car and love them, they have a very race look also. Now the strength issue might not aply to the 7, because of its light weight, but they have been known to crack on the track with the 350z's. just my .02$

F=18" 8.5 +38 235/40/18

R=18" 9.5 +40 265/35/18

I agree, the NT03+M is stronger but weight isn't that similar in terms of %ages.

The RPF1 17x8.0 +35 is 15.5lbs, and the NT03+M is 18.8lbs. A difference of 3.3lbs/wheel. About 20% heavier than the RPF1. Just to be technical. lolz.

Either of these two are great wheels.

oh boy that silver FD looks great.

yeah Rishies right, that 3.3 llbs is a lot of weight to add considering how strong the RPF1 is in comparison to the heavier and older wheel.

the RPF1 is damn light for its cost and strength... I'd get a set for ym FC if I could afford a change of wheels.

dont forget Real Racing Wheels... since you are only looking to run a 275 at the most, you can get race tires in 275 width for 16" wheels and the RRW's are known as ultralights and very very high quality. I have a set of 16x10's and they are under 14 pounds each. pretty amazing wheels.

I'm using hub-enlarged 16x9 from a twin-turbo Supra, and running 265/40 Kumho's.

Both wheels have a 50mm offset, so bring the tire into wheel wheels, yet don't rub.

Hoosier even as a 275/40 road and autox tire in 16-inch. Good news, the tires are also lighter in 16-inch!

These wheels are fairly light and VERY strong as they are OE.

I'm also looking for a set of 17x9.5 wheels, again from a a twin-turbo Supra.

:-) neil

Thats good to know, thanks. 3.3 lb's is quite abit diff. Especially when you start getting that low in weight.

I did weigh my 18"-9.5 and it weighed in at 18 1/2 lbs. Wich I think is pretty light for an 18. What do the 18" RPF1 weigh in at?
