Very low offset. Pulling/Rolling fenders.

Im about to purchase a set of 5Zigen FN01RCs as my track wheels for my FD.

The sizes for the wheels are gonna be;
17x9 +35F & 17x10 +12R.

Obviously there is gonna have to be quite alot of rolling & pulling of fenders, and negative camber to get these to fit flushed.

Curious if there could be any negative outcome effects by pulling out the fenders so much? Its a pretty big jump from the highoffsets.

Also, is there anybody that makes just fender flares for the FD? Not a widebodykit or anything. I think Pettit does? anyone else? links would be great.

Thanks

iirc on most cars the fender lip is there to add structural strength to the fender

by rolling it (and maybe pulling it) you make it weaker.

no big deal.

is there any particular reason you want to run such a high offset on a track car?

I can't think of any performance advantage.

For the rears I can only think of fender flares to help you out...but even that, you still have to deal with the fronts because those are way off too. You will have to pull the fenders out about an inch or more!!!!

Even then you have no flexibility in adjusting your camber and alignment settings as you will be running negative camber just to fit the tires not tweaking the camber to go faster at the track. For a track car the ability to adjust these settings are critical don't you think?

Very, very poor choices as track wheels. Both in wheel choice and offsets. If you are on a tight budget, go with 17x9 +43 offset FN01R at all four corners with 255/40 17 tires.

If you have a bigger budget, step up to a set of SSR or CCW wheels. It's safer to run forged or high-quality cast wheels for regular track use....ever see a car shear a wheel off at the hub at 100 mph? It's not pretty.

Additionally, I don't care what you do to the stock fenders, those wheels ain't fitting.

As far as why, I just like the look of wide low offset wheels w/ the fenders flared. And from the other 'drift' setup FDs that Ive seen w/ similar offsets & sizes, they will fit.
Id love to get a set of SSR Professors, Work VSKFs somthing similar right now, but Im in the process of finishing my car, and just looking for a cheap wheel that has good sizes, that I wont be scared if it gets a lil curb rash. Its a pretty popular wheel used on other 240sx's, and Ive never heard of them breaking, so idk about that.

Attached a pic of a FD, with the similar look Im trying to get with offsets & pulled fenders.

Ok, don't listen to good advice. It's your car.

lol. I didnt say I didnt appreciate your input, I do. But I know what I want.

I decided to move the rear up to a +25 offset, I might even just go +35 in rear and +43 in the rear for now. Im gonna pick up a set of MSport overfenders when I do bodywork, and then no pulling or whatnot will be needed when I get my other set of wheels.

Like I said, Thanks everyone for your input.

since you know what you want, maybe you should do the calculations and figure out how much the wheels you want will stick out and then you can know how much you would have to pull the fenders out to get them to fit instead of guessing?

according to jimlabs fitment sheet 17x10 +44 in the back gets you only .2 inchs of clearance. The front with 17x9 is about the same.

most of the guys on the forum don't go to this much of an extreme for a look or for drifting. I think if you want an answer you will have to do the calcs yourself of ask someone who has similar setup.

also, I would be surprised if the apexi drift car has those offsets. Do you happen to know what they run? Also, I am assuming you will be running stiffer springs?

Yeah, like I said. Ive had my friend do the calcs for me on the offsets, and said I would still rubb with +25. So idk, just not gonna waste my time doing bodywork/bondo on 2ndrate wheels and do it right the first time.

So right now my plan is to SELL THE STUFF I POSTED UP IN THE 3RD GEN CLASSIFIEDS (haha shameless plug.), that should pay for the MS overfenders, and Im just gonna skip out on the 5Zigens, and just get a good set right now.
Looking at Work VSKFs, Gramlight Pros, SSR Professors, Work Workmeisters.

I'll most likely next weekend give my friend who goes to school at UT, the money to pickup a set of KTS coilovers for me. So that way it saves me on shipping and whatnot, since SPL store is in Austin. If not, some wkend soon. So yeah, stiffer springs. The car is gonna be sitting pretty low.
