Urgent! what size hub centric rings do i need?

Urgent! what size hub centric rings do i need?

Ok, I have a set of enkei's EVO5's from my old car.
I don't have the money to get new rims and tires so I'm going to use these for now.
My parents offered to pay for the wheel adapters to convert the 4x114.3 on my 1987 SE to a 4x108 so it'll fit the enkei's.
Now my question is where should I get the hub centric rings so that my car doesn't wiggle around while driving? And what size of the rings should I get?

If you have a better site that you recommend to get a 4x114.3 to 4x108 wheel adapters, that'd be great too.
The tires on my car right now scares me when I drive. Especially cause it has cracks and flat spots on it. So I want to hurry up and get these items.

To answer the question you asked:

If both the spacer and wheels use tapered lugs you don't need hub centric rings. The centering happens via the lug (we'll assume your wheel studs are straight which is almost always the case.) Once the assembly is torqued all load is carried by the friction of the clamped joint so centering rings don't carry any load. I've had HCR manufacturer's claim avoiding the use of rings could have your wheels off by as much as 0.002" (OHH MY!, but wait, is that an acceptable tolerance or not) only to find the rings themselves were out of round by 0.010" (5x worse than the "problem" they claimed to prevent). Any benefit the rings offer is marginal at best and certainly won't matter for a stock FC. Now if you have a Mitsu Evo wheel or something that does not use tapered lugs, yes you need hub centric rings.


To answer the question you should be asking:

Will your enkei's even fit with the offset change of the spacer? That's before you even get into the fact you're about to pay top dollar for a set of crazy odd spacers that won't be worth money to anyone else. That same $150 (plus shipping) would go a long way toward a used set of wheels. Generally wheels and tires are so cheap used that in your case I'd be looking for a complete set rather than blow the money on adaptor spacers in the first place. If you can sell the Enkei's you mentioned for $200... It should be pretty easy to get something that will fit properly in the $350 range. Heck you might even be able to swing a five lug setup too if you find someone parting out a car.

hub rings are a bunch of crap. not needed! no one uses lug nuts that arent conical. the only thing the rings do is center the wheel while the nuts are loose.
torque your lugs with the car partially jacked up (just enough weight on the tire to stop if from spinning), and hub rings serve no purpose at all.

The hub ring issue doesn't seem to be all that clear.

From the bit of reading I've done it, whether or not you think you need them really depends on your experience and the kind of cars you've had.

I have driven with and without them on a Miata that was street driven and autocrossed and couldn't tell the difference.

My FD has done140 MPH down the front straight of PIR without hub rings, never noticed any problems.

If you're driving a German car such as BMW, VW or Audi, you would likely want hub rings, as those cars attach the wheels with bolts, not studs. The hub ring just makes it easier to put the wheel on if nothing else.

I have 'hub centric' spacers on my FD with RPF1's. They do nothing beyond rattle around between the hub and the rim.

I have done 145ish at VIR and have never had a problem.

I don't know but this sounds like a bad idea to me.

Converting to 4x108 using a 25mm spacer.

if you want a good fitting 4x114.3 Wheel that's affordable

5Zigen FN01RC
17x8 +35 4x114.3

The EVO5 17x7 +42, 25mm spacer = +17 offset net.

It should barely work BUT YOUR CORRECT TIRE SIZE IS

225/45/17 SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TIRE SIZE just buy tires or look for used tires and wheels from a 240SX or something on craigslist.

oh and those spacers are not hubcentric so i definitely think you might have some vibrations.

Please find out the centerbore of the spacer. If it's a 73mm then i can source you a KICS hubcentric ring for that spacer. Might be $70 or so for a full set.

At which point you can actually utilize a hubring for your wheel. It's very inexpensive so might as well just get it. The photo of the spacer you provided doesn't have any provisions for a "wheel hubring".

2 hubrings - 1 for spacer, 1 for wheel.
