Tyre speed rating

Ok guys, after having BS S-01,BS S-02,and michelin pilots,i've decided to go with
Continental sportcontact 2.The problem is that they only come with V speed rating and not in ZR which is what Mazda suggests.I read that touring models came with V rating and i was wondering if its ok to go with V.Any suggestions?(except different tyre brand and 17 inch wheels).

You should have no problems going with a V rated tire.

thansk for the reply,i've already read the tech articles from tirerack, but how about this:

http://www.1010tires.com/tiretech.asp

"he speed rating of any tire is a measurement of the top safe speed the tire can carry a load under specified conditions. It is also an indication of how the tire will handle at lower speeds. A higher rated tire will give you better traction and improved steering response even at 50mph.

Below is a listing of common speed ratings:

Q

=

99 MPH, 160km/h

S

=

112 MPH, 180km/h

T

=

118 MPH, 190km/h

U

=

124 MPH, 200km/h

H

=

130 MPH, 210km/h

V

=

149 MPH, 240km/h

Z

=

149 MPH, 240km/h and over

W

=

168 MPH, 270km/h

Y

=

186 MPH, 300km/h

It is not recommended to downgrade your tires to a lower speed rating than of the OEM tires that came with your vehicle at the time of purchase. Doing so can effect the handling of the car, and in an emergency situation that can be dangerous. Also, never mix tires with different speed ratings on your vehicle."

Do you track your car consistently?? V rated tires are good till 149mph. If you drive that fast during regular street driving, you have a bigger problem then your tires.

Those are shitty tires, IMO. I would strongly recommend getting just about any other "high performance" tire -- Pirelli Pzero, Yoko AVS Sport, S-03s, Toyo T1-S (or T1-R maybe in Europe), etc. The Michelin Pilot PS2 and BFG KDs are the stickiest street tires but you will have to put up some serious outlay for those....
