too much info to digest...can you just tell me what brakes i should get

Talking too much info to digest...can you just tell me what brakes i should get

ok, information overload with different brake setups....

so i'm asking the more knowledgeable to give me a simple answer...what brakes should i get for my FD...got pretty scary over the weekend when i was slamming on the brakes and the car kept going

- price..cheaper the better...max i'd be willing to pay is probably $2500...gotta control the spending

- easy to maintain. i've read a couple posts about people having to order pads from the UK and what not...so something I can easily get parts for.

- I have 17" wheels so I think I should be ok meeting the minimum wheel size but if there's some really big kits out there that's what size I have

not sure if there's something critical i'm missing.

Just get brake pads. If you are a track ***** get the project mu titans, they have a temperature range up to 800 degree celcius. I used them for daily driving and track, and I've never faded them. Plus the pedal feel is really great. Just do that and bleed your brakes and you should be fine until you start posting insane lap times

i occasionally go canyon carving and recently started tracking the car. it's not daily driven. i realize the pads and fluid will probably solve my problem, but it's fun to get bigger and better brakes

TTB, as I posted in your other thread, you can upgrade to the 99+ RS/RZ brakes all around for under $2k (or even less if you buy used set-ups from Jesse Lau or JT-imports). I will be going this route some day. To me, that setup has, by far, the best bang for the buck.

If it's for track and you're willing to spend the dough I don't think you can beat the '99 RZ spec brakes for the price. Best of all they are factory parts, so you know the fit is excellent.

There is lots of info here along with a group buy going on right now. Check it out.

I thought the GB was closed though. If not, I may go get in on it.

When you were slamming on the brakes and the car wouldn't stop, did you still feel pedal pressure or was the pedal mushy?

There are two types of brake fade:

1. Pedal is mushy. The harder you push, the further the pedal goes down. That's a problem with the fliud.

2. Pedal is still firm, however the car is not braking. That's the brake pads.

Both are of course from too much heat. Honestly, unless you are a serious track buff, you don't need to get a big brake kit. Getting the right brake fluid and brake pads will take care of over 70% of the people on the forum here.

IMO, your best bet is to get some decent brake fluid (something like Super Blue). Run good street pads for the street (front and rear), like the Hawk Pads. On your track days, leave the Hawks on the rear and run some Race Pads on the front. I'm using some race pads from N-Tech currently for track days and Bonez Stage I pads for the street. You really won't find a good pad for both the track and the street unless you are running on some small tracks.

yeah and don't forget to bleed the brakes sounds like you're brake fluid could use replacing and bleeding.

what about getting stainless steel braided brake lines? my friend has them on his FD and you can really tell the difference...

How about this:
Hawk Brake Pads
High Quality Brake Fluid
Stainless steel braided brake lines

For some looks
Brembo cross driller and/or slotted disk (ebay) just get the hats treated to they don't rust (paint or powder coat)

The above are on my mods to do.

i'm going to take everybody's advice and save the money and just go with the pads (EBC), ss lines and fluid (motul).

heard cross driller is bad, prone to cracking.

Yeah, under high stress. I don't know if slotted disks will have the same problem. I'm still in the research phase for the brakes. I'm sure someone can chime in. but I did preface my statement for looks.

Keep in mind, with that Motul, you'll need to change your brake fluid at least once a year (maybe twice a year or so, when/if you road race the car).

curious...why is that? i'm guessing this doesn't apply to regular brake fluid?

The Motul will absorb water very quickly. This ruins the fluid by bringing down the boiling point.
