Tires: Toyo Proxes vs S03's.last question about to order.
ok guys last tire question as i finally got my bonus and am about to order. My preferances are dry grip over anything else...my FD feels like it is on ice with over 300rwhp. However i dont want my car to sound like a truck as like people are explaining the A032's.
I dont drive my car in anything other then sunny days. I will track these tires atleast 2 times a year. Money isnt really an issue.
So far, it seems people here like the S03's and the Proxes..which do u like best for the criteria that i provided. Also i went to Toyo and see there are several different Proxes which one do i want?
I really appreciate the help! Thanks.

for toyos u want the T1-s
the other high performance tires are track only slicks or all season high performance (FZ4) i have those...i got them real cheap off a 240sx guy so that is why i'm running them.
fwiw, the toyo T1-s is about the lighest tire u can buy. has best wet wheater traction availble according to a SCC magazine article duing this past summer.
i have not run those... scott89T2 runs them on his car.
also sleepR1 swears by hte S03s.
so its your call...
i wouild personally rather have wet wheater traction over absolute dry wheater traction.
if u want that much dry wheater traction u are probably running in autox or track days... so might as well get a set of slicks.
when are u going to use the limit of a tires dry traction on the road anyways? if u are, you are putting yourself and innocnet others at risk on the roads.

I use both... Proxes T1-S on the FC, and Potenza S-03 on the BMW. They're both really good tires, but my personal preference is for the Toyos. Dry grip is about the same, but they are lighter and seem to react a little better.
Also, I know you've said that wet weather traction isn't important... but I have to say that in the wet, the Toyos are incredible.

Have not had the S-03s yet. I've had Yokohama AVS Intermediates. Great cheap tire for $94 each in 255/40-17. Alas Tire Rack is OUT OF STOCK!
My next choices would be between Pirelli P-Zero and BF Goodrich G-Force KDs for max dry grip. The 255/40-17s are $174 for the P-Zeros and $247 for the G-Forces (Tire Rack).
S-03s have been unanimously declared as fantastic wet/dry tire. Decent price at $192 for 255/40-17 (Tire Rack).
S-02s are also great, and I love the cool tread pattern of the older S-02s
(more than the S-03s @ Tire Rack).
Continental Sport Contact 2s were going to be my next tires when my current AVS I's wore out. They're $168 each in 255/40-17 at the Tire Rack.
The Toyo T1-Ses are the spec tire for the Speed World Challenge races. I've heard good thing about those, and the price is great too.
Good luck and Happy New Year!

Not a bad move for Toyo though, as I'll probably be buying many more sets of these tires in the future.

let me know.
thanks.
I've never had any personal experience with the T1-s, but I've heard both good and bad things about these tires. I had two friends running them on their cars and they complained that the tires behaved strangely under hard driving conditions. It's interesting how a lot of racers use them though, since some classes are required to run them. I'm running S03's on my car now and I am very very happy with them. Dry and wet traction is superior and they stick to the ground like glue. I wonder what the price difference and the treadwear is between the S0-3's and the T1-S though.
I have both S-02's and S-03's. I think they are both fantastic. I actually prefer the S-02's a bit more. I dont think you can go wrong with either the toyo the S-02 or S-03. The Bridgestone is def superior wet and the S-03 will wear a bit better than the S-02. The S-02 is a proven tire. The S-03 has great reviews but the S-02 is long since proven. Pirelli makes a good tire. I have owned them in the past. P-Zero's.
