Tires for SSR SP1 18x8.5 +43 and 18x10 +37 on FD
OK, I just traded my Racing Hart Tracers for these SSR SP1 18x8.5 +43 and 18x10 +37. I have coilovers with rolled front fender and will be rolling the back. The car is mainly street driven, no track days yet. I have read through the threads the past couple of days on rim & tire sizes and have pretty much decided on two tire sizes and just wanted to get some opinions and inputs.
1st choice is to go with 245/35/18 front and 285/30/18 back. This is the closest to stock diameter and pretty even in height. I’m concern with how rough the ride will be with 30 series sidewalls in the back.
2nd choice is 255/35/18 front and 275/35/18 back. The back is a little bit taller, but only by ~0.5”. I’m concern with how the 255 will fit on the 8.5” rim and how much bulge it will have. I have mainly seen 245 on a 8.5” rim and don’t know if it’s a good idea to run 255’s.
Let me know what you guys think or if you have any suggestions. Pictures of either tires setups would be nice if you can post them. Thanks.

Any reason you would go with the 245F & 275F instead of the 255F & 275F? I have been running Nitto NT-555 and have been pretty happy with them. The Hankook Ventus are about the same price, so are they better performance wise in your experience. I like the Nitto, because I think they're probably the best bang for the buck.

A 255 will fit a 8.5 wheel, but depending on the tire you'll be compromising some sidewall strength so I would go with a 245 which would fit the 8.5 better. The Hankook tire is one of the best for the money. The performance is just slightly behind the Dunlop Star Specs which are the best bang for the buck today.
