They say the Nitto 555Rs are pretty good, but don't know if they're available in 15-inch diameters...

The common upgrade for those are the 225/50/15 size.

I am putting some Falken Azenis Sport tires on my daily driver tomorrow. They look extremely grippy (HUGE tread blocks) and are dirt cheap. I got 205/50-15 for some 15x6.5" wheels, and it looks like that would be your best choice if you decide to get the same tires. I think they have stiff sidewalls, so they won't be ideal for drag racing, but Sport Compact Car just did a test with them compared to drag radials and drag slicks and they did okay. They got a 2.69s 60 foot time (the car was FWD) versus 2.62s for a BFG drag radial. That's darn good if you ask me.

The Azenis Sports are about $70 each. I've got them on the car now and they work great. They are a little wider than the rim, so I think that 205s might be about as wide as you should go with 6.5" wheels. Any wider and they might not have good sidewall support. They are a little noisy when cruising, but not too bad. I am sure the S-03s would be quieter (that is what I run on my RX-7). S-03s are more refined, and are actually quite a good deal compared the rest of the tires in their class. But the Azenis Sport has to be the tire bargain of the century if you are just looking for grip.
