Tire Weights?

Does anyone have info on tire weights?

I am going from Bridgestone RE730 245/45-16 to BFG KD 255/40-17. I noticed on previous threads that the same size tire can weigh up to 8 lbs different (Toyo T1s vs Kumho 712).

You can spend gobs of $$ to save a few lbs on wheels but the tire weights can more than offset the weight savings on the lightweight wheels.

Yes that's very true Marc. Sorry been real busy trying to get like 15 Mazdas ready for a show up here. I'll be seeing you at Sevenstock, right? Probably shoot out to Vegas right after.

Rishie

I'll get the info for you on Monday with those weights. Toyo and Pirelli are definitely the lightest in the groups.

So what are the weights on the Bridgestone Potenza S-03s? They are usually considered one of the best tires you can get so what about their weight?

Well, Kumho and Toyo are one of the few (along with Falken if i remember correctly) that actually publishes thier tire weights. Maybe as much as 4 lbs or so difference, but I don't think 8.

http://www.kumhousa.com/pages/pcr/712specs.htm

http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_specsheet.cfm?id=2

I read somewhere that the SO3s are among the heaviest, along with the Kumho 712s. Tried contacting Bridgestone but got nowhere with both email and calling. Not stopping me from buying them though.

Well this does nothing to answer your original question , BUT if one day you decide to go with Kumho Ecsta V700s in a 265/35R18, they are spec'd at 25.1 lbs (Kumho website), and in real life have been weighed at 25.5 lbs (my digital scale for a brand new, Tire Rack heat-cycled tire). Maybe I just got a heavy set.

I'll just have to scrub off that excess weight at the track
