tire weight difference 18 or 17? (larger sidewalls)

Does tire size make much of a difference in weight. I weighed my 205/55/16s at around 25lbs. I'm looking at getting new wheels either 17x17.5 or 18.7.5. The 17s weigh about 12.5lbs and the 18s about 16lbs
For tires I was looking at 225/45/17s or 225/40/18s. Would the weight of the extra tire negate the approximate 3lbs savings by going with 17s? The 17's are of course cheaper as are the tires but the 18s might look better so I guess I'll go by the performance difference as small as it may be.

tire rack has weights for all their tires, 18 inch tires are usually heavier because of the extra stiffening needed.

Actually, many 18" tires weigh the same or less than their 17" equivalent. It depends on the model and exact tire size though.

Thanks, I didn't realize they had tire weights on there, too bad they didn't carry the wheels I was looking at, only found one place that does. Was looking at the Velox PG-20C's
