Tire Size for XXX HP .....

Is there some sort of formula other than Wider = Better !?

Right now I have 235's all around, but i'm thinking the rears need to go wider, if so how wide !? 265 ?? 285 ?? Mind you without flares... I searched, and it looks like 285 is as wide as you can go on a stock fender...

I have Street Port, with GT 35/40 Turbo, Install in a week, and I expect to make the magic 390-410 Number....

What do you suggest !?

No formula that I know of. You just keep adding wider rubber until the car begins to slow down

Tire compound is alot more important than just width. You can get more traction with good 225 tires that with cheapo 335s. That being said, with ~400RWHP you still shoudl be looking to get good sized wheels/tires out back ( and all around). With your FD, that can be done easily without fender rolling. Do a search on offsets and widths, you can run 255s all around no problems, and if you dont mind a staggered setup, 285s can be done in the rear.

It's torque that breaks traction...

I just read the part about no flares, but 335's in the rear on 12 inch wide rims is pretty nice...good luck, 285's I think are the agreed upon biggest size without mods. Take it easy.

Any particular reason why Tire Rack seems to want to discourage me from going wider than 265 ? Or don't certain manufacturers carry wider widths !?

Looking at 18" BBS RGR's

As a rule Tire Rack uses conservative numbers. They deal with thousands and thousands of people who have no idea what works and what doesn't so they err on the side of being correct all the time. There are certainly other sizes that will fit which Tire Rack doesn't recommend but you need to know your exact application.

What he said^ I can spin my street tires into 4th -265/40/17 pirelli p7000's. While my stock wheels with 245/50 16's nitto dr's or 225/50 victoracers grip MUCH better, although they are both "r" compounds. I would suggest trying the nitto drag radials with that much power, they are very streetable, seem to last a long time, come in many sizes and even do ok in the rain.
