I have a 1988 RX convertible. Here is the situation. I have a slow leak in the right rear. Took it in to be fixed, no go. I picked up a nail in the sidewall. (too aggressive cornering I would guess). Anyway, I have Michelin Pilot's all around, that the po put on the car. I have liked the cornering performance of them, but I am looking for opinions. I am going to replace both of the rear tires, because the other side is pretty worn down.
Any opinions on whether I should stay with the Michelin's or try something new?

I'm a Pirelli guy myself.. . you'll find that everyone has their own opinions on what's good.. I find that tirerack reviews are normally pretty accurate, so you may want to take a look through there.

ive had nitto nt555's they wroked great. Took some pretty hard corners driving in mountains, never had em squeal(guess i wasnt pushing hard enough)
Currently have BF goodrich G-Force sports. love em also.

Falken ST-115 D1... grippy race tire with low noise (and with a vert you want tires with the lowest road noise) and one of the most popular tires for drifting and mountain racing ever made.

Michelins are good tires, but way overpriced IMO. What tire do you have? There are lots of Michelin Pilots. Oh, and what size? I can make a couple of quick recommendations based on personal experience. (You can check all these out for yourself at www.tirerack.com)
Bridgestone Potenza RE750 - great tire, fairly comfortable, wouldn't break loose, slightly noisy (but not too bad), decent wear (i got ~28k mi out of em with pretty hard driving)
Fuzion ZRi - best performance tire for the money, cant beat the price, very good grip in dry, not bad in wet, good cornering, decent wear, also made by Bridgestone
Kumho Ecsta 712 - this is what i put on all my sporty cars, lots of sizes available, good all around tire that will never let you down no matter what the driving conditions (except snow
, very good price, good wear, even did quite well at the track for my first HPDE event (in a '93 FD). The only reason i'm switching is to go with a more track-appropriate tire for upcoming track events. I've also heard that the new SPT is pretty good, but it's gotten some mixed reviews.
Avon Tech M 500 - another good all around tire one of my friends runs on his FD and likes a lot, he has done several track events and is satisfied with their performance, they also have good wear and high grip and cornering ability, decent price
These are all my recommendations for a budget performance tire. I dont run all season tires or care about snow traction (that's what my Xterra's for) so your expectations may be different than mine. If i had my choice for a street performance tire and money was no object, i'd probably go with Kumho Ecsta MXs or the GoodYear Eagle F1 GS-D3. The F1 is a great performer and has incredible grip. My friend has it on his Jetta w/ 18" wheels and it handles incredibly well, making even the stock suspension feel very tight and sporty simply because it just wont let go. It also makes for a good everyday street tire.
