Tien Coilover Problems

I have recently purchased a 1993 FD with Tein SS coilovers. When I checked the setting on the coilovers, it took 24 clicks to get the 0 setting (firmest) - I believe that these coilovers should only have 16 clicks of adjustment. I have adjusted the coilovers to 16 clicks (which should be the softest setting). The car crashes over bumps, expansion strips and pot holes in the road; and if I hit a hump, I am actually lifted out of the seat. So it appears that there is not much dampening from the shocks in either direction of suspension travel. I have also tried setting the coilovers to 8 clicks (standard setting) with no change in the way that the car reacts to bumps or humps in the road.

I saw a few posts where it was indicated that turning the Tein SS coilovers out past 16 clicks would ruin the shocks.

I would appreciate any thoughts on what might be wrong with these coilovers and what to do next. I am assuming that it is not normal for the car to crash over bumps and expansion strips, nor should it be normal for the car to react as it does over humps in the road. Tein rebuild service looks like it could take 3 to 5 weeks, plus shipping time, so the car would be out of commission for up to 8 weeks.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Wade

Twin tube shocks require bleeding before installation, which no one seems to know...

I would try that first.

Thanks. Coilovers have been on the car for a few years, so I am assuming that this is not the problem. But I may try one shock anyway and see what happens.

if they were installed initially without proper bleeding, they can still be a problem. Like I said, no one seems to know about this. You think the previous owner did?
