Have you ever test fitted your rears on the front?

If so... how much clearance is there with a track alignment (like -1.8 or so).

If it won't fit I'll just go with the 17x9, but I don't like 255's on 9'' wheels, too square but looks aren't really a huge deal (but kind of... if you know what i mean)

I have the RZ BBS wheels (8,5 rear??) +50 On my car with 15 mm kics spacers (35 effective offset) running 255/40/17 and I have tons of clearance from struts and fender. I have TODA Fightex coilovers if it matters. I do not know my current alignment settings, but I believe it is somewhere around -1 degree or so. I could EASILY shove a 9.5 +38 with 255s on my car. You should hve no problems at all.

9.5 +38 with 255's up front will probably require a good 10mm of more room up front. Either by modifying the fender or running more camber.
