Test painting my rims (bunch-o-pics) (3rd try...)

Ok when I originally ordered these Konig Imagine rims, I was expecting the spokes to be a nice dark color. When they came, they were silver. I thought they sent me the wrong ones, but tires.com said they were sure that was the correct finish.

After a year and 1/2 of having the rims, I finally decided to paint them. I didn't want to use spray paint because I was worried it would come off too easily. Then the other day I found this stuff at autozone:

I have two extra rims that I use for a coffee table, so I decided to use them as test subjects...

I really like the 'polished lip' look, so I taped off the lip and put two coats of the stuff on one of the rims.

I must say, I am VERY satisified with the results. The finish is equal to that of a good powder-coating job... Nice color (slightly metallic) with a semi-gloss finish. They look darker in real life.

Here are a few more photos:

(looks slightly lighter in the above picture because of the sunset lighting...)

(such a nice finish. sprayed on even without any trouble.)

Here's how my rim's look right now. I think I am going to paint them on Wednesday since I liked the test-results so much.

I'll post photos after I do all four and bolt them back up on the FD.

Looks nice, but couldn't you have dissasembled the centers and paint instead of masking?

Yup, Ive used this paint before as well. It will chip, but applying several coats of clear greatly enhances the longevity (powder coating is really the proper way to ensure that it will last). For rattle can stuff, BBS wheel paint works very well: http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?fo...action=product

No kidding? I had some steel wheels powder coated locally and the lug nuts take out the powder coating directly under them, but no chips or cracks at all. The powder coating under the lug nuts looked like it was squeezed out not shipped or flaked off.
