Tein SS Install on FD - bushing mods ???

I have a set of Tein SS coilovers, I am ready to install them. I also have all new stock Mazda shock mounting rubber & bumper stopper assemblies.

My question is this: the Tein install instructions mention the mounting rubber ("bush" in Tein-speak) "need modification"... umm, that's kinda vague. Has anyone installed a set of Tein SS coilovers on an FD and can you describe the mounting rubber modification required?

You probably need to use some sort of "upper spring perch" supplied by tein instead of the OEM sized spring perch or rubber bushing for the spring to seat in. I can't remember on FD it's been too long.

Just double check and make sure you still don't need anything from the stock suspension.

The Tein instructions specifically state "Use Stock (OEM) Parts" for the bushing in question. These are not the pillow ball upper mounts like on Tein Flex.

I'm hoping someone knows what needs to be modded on the OEM bushing.

Ya I know.

Here's the issue:

Your stock OEM Spring has a much larger internal diameter.

The stock uppermount is designed for that I.D.

Now your Tein units probably have a 60 or 65mm ID. As a result this spring won't fit into that larger bushing.

Take a look at it and attempt assembling it without gunning it together.

Just lower the spring into the lowest position.

Then take the OEM uppermount and see how it fits against the TEIN spring.

From that point you should be able to deduce what other supplied Tein parts need to be used.

Update: The SS uses tapered springs similar to stock, they fit the upper mounts just fine. The "need modification" turns out to be the D-shaped hole in the mounting rubber needs to be filed out to a full circular shape. I took pics but haven't d/l'd them off the camera yet.
