Tein Pillowball Mounts with KYB Shocks and RB Springs??
Tein Pillowball Mounts with KYB Shocks and RB Springs??
Hey guys,
I'm looking for info on using the Tein Pillowball mounts, either/both the front and rear, with KYB AGX's and Racing Beat springs or similar.
I emailed the guys at Auto RND that sell the mounts and this is what they said-
"They will work, i've done this before, but not ideally. The P/UM are designed for Tein coilovers primarily. You might have to make shift a few pieces to get this to work with some of the OEM parts if you're using OEM type springs. -Rishie"
So I'm seeking further explanation here, has anyone ran this setup? What adjustments needed to be made to use them with a stock spring shock type setup?
Thanks in advance for any help,
NJGB

I'm mostly wondering because I would like to accomplish two things. One, I would like to replace the aging rubber mounts in the car to reduce some slop in the suspension. Two, I would like to be able to correct for the camber change due to lowering the car with the RB springs.
So what needs to be done to be able to use the Tein mounts with a stock type spring and shock?

Tein upper mounts will be designed to seat a 2.5" (or rough metric equivalent) race spring, whereas typically stock replacement springs like RB are of a different diameter.
Doesn't anyone make a stock-replcement, camber correcting upper mount for an FC?

I don't know, I have been looking around for a while and haven't been able to find a set. Does anyone else know of a company that does offer it?
Other wise I suppose I could just get new stock mounts and spring seats to eliminate the slop.
As far as camber correction goes I could get the rear camber adjust link, but what would be the best bet for the front camber. I have heard bad things about the bolts and if the pillow ball mounts don't work then I don't know what to do. How bad will the camber be upfront with the Racing Beat springs?

I really wouldn't worry about the camber in front, because with a strut suspension it really doen't gain much camber at all when lowered. Besides, with the springs being stock sized, there's not much room at all in the shock towers to make adjustments before the spring hits the tower (one big reason for going to the 2.5" springs with coilovers). The rear is really what you need to worry about as it gains a lot of camber when lowered.
My suggestion is to forget about camber plates, then if it's really a problem once installed (it won't be), then worry about it.

Okay, it's coming back to me now, I have been trying to finish my suspension for the longest time and have forgotten most of what I had researched.
I will get the new stock mounts and spring seats( where do I buy the stick spring seats?) and get the camber link for the rear. I'll see what the camber is like and go from there. Actually. I think the car is sitting higher than it was with the old stock springs and shocks so it shouldn't be that bad, the RB springs are only supposed to drop it 1".
Thanks for your help.
